Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

I new a lad from North Shields that drove for Blue Dart some years ago, Chris Compson, The last time I spoke to him he was shunting on South Harbour for Fergies. Anyone remember him ? Regards Larry.

Came across this the other day when I was having a bit of a sort out. Those were the days, a works Christmas party. John always put on a good “do” with a good buffet, Free bar all night and paid for our taxi home. No wonder he went bump!

Aye Lawrence was up at RED Row & Brunton last yr

These are the last pictures of my motor working. I was told last week that there was no work for six weeks.I had just delivered a box to Seaforth only to be given the good news!!! I think it must have slipped the mind of the controller that there was no work for me :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused: I did a job for my good friends the Ritchies (Hetton) on wednesday that was my last revenue earner. The final shot with the empty skelly is ready to roll to the buyer. Ps Gis a job. regards Kev.

My good friend Stuart Ritchie gave me permission to post this 1920s advertising flyer. If anyone still wants to join the “club”
Im sure all donations will be gratefully accepted.   . Ps notice there is no tel. no. on the document. regards Kev.

Sorry to here no work Kev hope you get something sorted soon

There dont seem to be a lot of work about atm but sure you will find something

If anyone hasn’t yet read the Ritchies of Hetton-le-Hole book by Bob Tuck then its worth getting hold of, an interesting insight into a Northeast haulage company, a good read and plenty of good photo’s. Its a pity we haven’t got more stories of Northeast firms in print, especially those that are still around today. Franky.

DHL seem to have plenty of subbies in Prudhoe Kevin might be worth a sniff
