Hi lads, As promised…Some old pics of Gurteen’s LTD…Hope it brings back lots of memories…Dad doesn’t know about the Trader one…As he was the one that bumped it!!!
And he had the nerve to sack me because I burst a tyre!!! Those pictures of the F7,s are very nostalgic for me, the white kerb in the bottom left will be the fuel island where I burst the tyre on a loaded trailer. Does he remember the incident. Nowt lost I went back on the skips for a while till I was forgiven then back on the benders a little later. hows he doin and your uncle Albert

Hi Sid,
He can’t remember the tyre because it was a regular occurance and his memory isn’t what it used to be!! After he retired, I had a fitter reverse a loaded 8 wheeler over there and wipe out both of the diesel pumps and lost a load of fuel too!!! How it didn’t flip, i’ll never know Both he and Albert are fine thanks, both enjoying retirement.

I’ve noticed that they ran a lot of DAF’s and Ivecos in later years how many of these makes did they have? Crookhill is next to Stargate in later years Jeff Smiles ran tippers from there Crookhill Transport Ltd rented from WAG.
I have also seen some Renaults and Mercedes transporters.
There were loads of DAFs 2500 4x2,85 4x2,95 4x2 &6x2.
4 Iveco Eurotech 4x2 & 1 Iveco 6x2.
6 Renault G340, 2 R340, 5 Premiums, 2x 5 tonners
2 Merc 1624 tractors 2or3 Drawbars, 307 & 306 3 1/2 tonners.[/quot
Was there any other interesting vehicles in the fleet?
How about Horse & Carts have a photo somewhere, 1940’s Morris Commercials, 4x4 Canadian Fords, 6x6 GMC’s, 6x6 DUKW’s Various Bedfords, ex wd 6x4 Dodge, 6x6 AEC, 6x6 Atkinson, 4x4 AEC , Foden 8x4 & 6x4 tippers & flats, BMC transporters, flats, tippers& hanging meat van, Commer TS3, Albion 4x2,6x4,8x4,Leyland 4x2,6x2,6x4,8x4
It would be great if there were some photos of these vehicles.
Where else did they have depots apart from Consett & Durham?
I have noticed that some vehicles have a Consett phone number, some a Durham and others a 0191 number?

It would have been before I got there or while I was up at chevington on an eight wheeler… Jimmy was on a low cab Scania when I got the F10. It had been double shifted and had a lot of miles on it [The F10] but I loved it as it was my first adventure down the road. We used to take lime out of Teeside to Essex or dolly out of Thrislington to Clanwern steelworks.and spend the week in and out of the hythes around Mistley Quay and Colchester fetching coke up to the midlands then back down to Sheerness with scrap out of Talbots in Coventry or a 666 scrapyard in Bedford. Fond memories of the little cafe next to Sheerness steel and the lovely custard. We also used to load something out of Northfleet but cant remember what!! Once remember being chased away from the traffic lights in Northfleet by what I suspect was a Lady of the night touting for business, she ran like the wind, I was just married then and a long way from home but she wasnt fast enough to benefit from my services!!! PS Sid isnt my real name so that will be throwing you dear old dad!!
