Im sure that 86 was just tipping a bit off after being over the top at Raisby quarry when it went over.

Thats correct sidd the steering wheel attendant reversed the nsr wheels over a heap of sand with the body a ram and ahalf up and flipped her . not content with that he jumped out with his bait bag and left the engine running oil visable on ground a quarryman jumped in a strangled her ,2days later a leg was thrown out at widdrington screens ! Not to be put to rest yet her sister donated a new heart and saw a year or two more of active service, then to be put out to graze at kevin dixons rest home up at annfield plain…

I remember when they got these left hookers I was subing for James at that time we were loading Anthracite at Seaham Docks for down country, One of these units had a problem with the 5th wheel I cant remember what was but Im sure the driver will Regards Larry

Hello all

Found these two lists of tipper operators who were RHA members in the Tyneside area. List is from approx 1963. Some of them still operating today but some of them long gone and forgotten

Just read trough the two RHA lists again. My comment should have been

ALL long gone and forgotten

there s only a few that i can see on there
T F Cowen and sons still run 2 wagons
Hewitson from Westerhope 1 wagon
NB Transport Shotley Bridge 3 wagons
and Pringle bros from Ryton 4 wagons

It was nice to see my late uncle bob proudfoot on the list, great times when i was a kid 4oclock starts foundry coke over to warrington back to settle lime to consett iron company.cheers bob

hi blackbox
i remember when working for grady hall at burnopfield it didnt matter where in the country you had tipped all roads led back to settle for a load of lime to consett iron company.

Hi mickd1958 i have worked on most of the quarrys around settle and horton in ribblesdale fixing tracks on the machines but all ways looking for the one which we loaded lime for consett. It was not till this year i found it,hanson quarry in horton village remember going through a bridge and on the right hand side a deep blue pond took me back years when i drove in.made a change from co pilot in re33 to p cab scania. cheers bob

hi blackbox
i can remember the quarry in horton we used to lead iirc chippings for the roads out of there. remember one day recovering an f7 eight wheeler from hawes who had run into the back of another motor loaded with chippings we tipped the load in the market square then loaded it onto another wagon with a farmers jcb then hung the wagon on the back of jr youngs f88 wrecker which we had “borrowed”.
another quarry i remember is one just outside of grassington i think we led lime out of there but to redcar steelworks after consett closed
we used to come back onto a1 using all the back roads till residents complained then the quarry said we had to use main roads so it was over blubberhouses and through killinghall
