Hiya Mark. Wasnāt on last night - had to get up early this morning. Sometimes feel like Iām back on the tippers! Often speak to Malcolm so will ask him if he has any pictures. His son is now working for Finnie Haulage in Scotland. Malcolm was driving a Magnum on containers out of Felixstowe but properly sick, looking for another job. Bet your Graham canāt sit on top of a wagon roof to wash it now without denting it - what a porker! Do your lads on RTH still run on channel 22? Have a good weekend pal. Tell your dad and Graham Iām asking after them.

Iain here is a picture of TCās old Merc when at Albany, by coincidence I worked at a small place on Portobello and they had a Red 1418 I drove, I called into Vanheeās one day when near by and saw Tommy and he said it was the very same wagon, he was as surprised as I was. As you can see he has the kids in the cab, I got this from Bumper.
hiya mate is that 1418 the one transport services uk had must be around1978or1979 ithink my grandad drove it
Dave, hereās the model I built of your MAN, it isnāt the one mentioned above, I built the old King trailer too just havenāt got a pic handy to put on, never got around to doing the Crane for a load but will one day, I plan to refurb it a little, signwriting etc as its a bit long in the tooth now, still sitting on my shelf but gathering dust.
The last pic is of the NEWER lowloader in Rolls Royce with that bloody awful FL7.

Wingnut, its quite possible this is the same Merc, Iām not sure where it had worked between Albany and when I drove it for a little firm called Cabplant, it was painted Red then with a Black chassis and this would be about 1983, so it was getting a little old and struggled a bit compared to the other motors on the road at the time. I donāt know what happened to it once I left.
Laurence, my mistake with the Commers I was thinking of Rankins, whereas Baxters had AECās if Iām right. By the way I have a pic of an F. Short AEC crossing the Tyne Bridge, I believe it may have been posted on the Scrapbook Memories thread. I worked at Hodgons (later Tillotson) the AEC distributors on Benton Rd and a young lad called Foxy became an apprentice and he said hid Dad was the Foreman at Shorts (likely the Foxy you mentioned), however I believe he also became the workshop Foreman probably not long before the Anderson takeover. They were always a regular site when I worked on the Quayside later with the striking Green livery.
Iāve also added another pic I took a few days ago in Alnwick, I just caught this tipper turning infront of the old archway and thought it was a poignant pose that will bring back a few memories. Anyone know the tippers owner? Cheers Franky.
Aye young Foxy Charlie did become the foreman fitter after Bob Bell left he later started driving for Sam Anderson he may still be there I havent seen him for years his old man was the yard foreman Arthur canny bloke he used to work for Marsden Warehouses before he went to Shorties cheers Larry
I have just remembered the AEC Mandator MTN464E Don Jonhston drove it from new he came to Shorties from the Cally canny lad smoked like a chimmeny one of the blue eyed boys though
