hiya,
Left Glenny’s in about 1975 and can’t recollect ever seeing a wrecker knocking about remember an old crane used for transhipping H & S would have loved that one i actually brought their first 55 ft trailer they bought from Barry Island i was the only driver that used it when I worked there special long jobs from Bolton’s at Castleside bit tight getting in and out of that yard and the only time i ever saw anything being towed in was by a 6 wheeled tipper pre loaded with coal from the pit down Delves lane Woodside colliery, if they had a wrecker in 75 i never saw it, i think i counted about 20 motors in those days, would that have warranted a wrecker there was all sorts of bits and bobs at the bottom of the yard maybe they had one amongst that lot, my motor by the way was an ERF 180 Gardner ETY 666L

hiya,
George never drove for Siddle only what was left of it after it became Tayforth and then BRS North East, at the time i changed there was far more motors at the old Siddle site than Glenny’s at the Shotley yard the Durham yard of Glenny’s was’nt open at that time, Glenny’s Shotley yard was’nt very big would have been full with twenty motors and trailers paked in there.

hiya,
Funny you should say that Dennis that was the only motor i had any bad luck with when travelling along a farm track in some remote part of Scotland laden with 21 tons of lime the lane collapsed under the back nearside trailer wheels and i finished up on my side unlucky for me expensive for the guvnor took two lots of big hook boys to get her back upright but i drove her home and got a clear signature for the load, it left a canny hole at the side of the lane seemingly heavy rain had left the embankment weakened, the driver who had the motor before me had some very bad luck too but i would’nt go into that not pleasant.

Thanks all. I note that they had two different liveries some vehicles had a blue stripe on a maroon background others had a cream stripe on a maroon background.

hi
it was because of the unions that different liveries came into being
cream band general haulage
powder blue band car/vehicle transporters
transporter units were not to do general haulage and vice versa

hiya,
“Paw123” are you sure the above motor was 240 powered i checked the oil on a daily basis and never came across more than 6 pots it was badged at 180 and certainly did’nt perform any better than that the driver before me on that motor was a lad called Keith Berry, who went on the two pedal Ergo thing just doing local out of choice but as it being a 240 no way drove several of Glenny’s other 180 powered stuff prior to getting ETY 666L and they was all much the same,
thanks harry long retired.

hi harry
definitely was a 8 potter…2 pots out in the cold. When it came new it had a
cowl covering back two pots/oil filter housing, right tw…t to change filter element !
black oil allover, Jam Jar ( Davy Johnson) used to play hell about his suzies and
tarps on the duckboard getting covered . Keith Berry drove HPT135H if memory serves
me right.

High Paw you are correct ETY 666L was an 8 potter; when new it was in the Motor Show in Earles Court on the Carrimore stand coupled to Trailer 44 the first CVC on the 825x15s.It was never used on the car side when it came back Davy did get it. I think your are correct with HPT 135H it was bought in when Glendinning took over the Carrimore fleet along with a few trailers and a Mastiff. quote=“paw123”]hi harry

Does any one remember a firm called Wallace Transport from Stockton? They worked for Bowater-Scott and had some DAF’s. My great uncle worked for a firm who I think was taken over by Wallace. The only photo I have is of these two DAF’s (a 2800 and 2500) in the background. That by the way is me sat in my dad’s ERF about 25 years ago!! This was taken at Bowater-Scott’s yard at Hinkley.

hi, transporter man
SNL140G T BRUCE ( Gobbler )
NNL755F Don Bucannon
Brian Backhouse had TTY554H 8 wheel Octopus cut down to a twin steer unit

hiya,
Thanks for that here’s me thinking i’d never driven a 240 am very disappointed it did’nt perform any different to the 180s of which i’d driven many for different guvnors over the years in both Atki’s and ERFs, so summing up it was’nt a patch on stuff i’d driven previous and prior too with only the 220 ■■■■■■■■ and why the 180 badge on the grill of ETY?? that i am certain of, I know my memory is rubbish but I do remember that.

He’s probably confusing it with the Big J with the 240 Gardner they had Harry   .
Cheers Dave.

hi
naa the Guy Big J had a 5 Potter in !!!

hiya,
Them being confused Dave i think i’m confused i’m beginning to think i’m the guy who got s""t and putty mixed up and only realised my mistake when all my windows fell out, i’ve actually driven better performing 180s than that 240.
