Some more of Kevmac47’s motors

The little Merc was just a shrunk down version of a 1418 :open_mouth:  which was a good motor wonder if Kevin agrees
he loved his 1418 that he had at waughs so he told me anyway.

Yes Brian, your right I loved that 1418 so much I changed my job to get rid of it. That 813 was a good little barra that served me well when I first started
on my own. Unfortunately it suffered from the apathy and lack of attention of the so called technical dept. that we had at the depot at Birtley. Although
I never liked the Mercs I drove I always admit they were bombproof if they were looked after properly but unfortunately that didn’t happen with this
vehicle. regards Kevin.

econofrieght or donkey frieght as they were called

Kevin they should have been 1924 motors would have made a lot of difference in the way drivers took to them.
The only bad thing with the 1418 was the two speed back axle the bracket that used to give up the ghost,
greenhead bank was the favorite place for this.
can you remember PTY 884M the first 1418 merc, ex bells demo with the ratchet hand brake and the huge diesel tank it had that Stu Cartwright got to replace ONL 482M

Yes i can remember Taylor Plant, the man in front of the Foden was a fitter there, he lived at Wallbottle and did a little bit part time for us at Heddon but i can`t think of his name. Eddy comes to mind?
Thanks
Mark

Yes I remember it Brian. It never seemed to worry “Stu” how close to the bunk that handbrake was.I would never have been able to sleep worrying if I would turn over thru the night and knock it off!!

hi bumper
seeing the photo of grady halls erf brought back memories, i served my time as a mechanic there and worked for them from 1974-1990
i also remember eagle road services of abbotsford rd felling as my dad drove for them but left shortly after fergies took over, yes they had dodges but they were red and black not blue.
i used to go on a weekend with my dad to load up thats where i learned to rope and sheet and drove the forklift and crane no health and safety in them days!
jimmy white was the fitter there he moved to fergies at blyth but left and went to work for gateshead council
