Hi bumper
Joe pepper got LTY 126L from Parky Denholm who had it from new which was one of the three
L-reg 240 gardner Atkinsons they took in 72/73.
HJR 451L the one in the photo Geordie betty had new then Derek Scullion then Stevie Goulding.
HTY 628L Alan PAINE had from new then Albert Haswell got it.
Big Kris Kristiansen got GVK 369N new that to was a Gardner240 which had the DREADFUL 8 speed David brown gearbox behind it.
The last Atkinson with a 240 Gardner in they took was KFT 511P, Dougie (cracker) baits got this one new, it had the best road ranger gearbox i have ever come across the chap that put it together should have built them all.
Two more Gardner 240 motors came but they came with the Seddon/Atkinson 400 series cab the first being LBB 815P
A DAY CAB with the passenger seat removed and a box fitted which folded out to make a bed (i use the term bed very loosely)
Parky denholm got this new LTY 126L went to Martin Harrison only had it for a few month as Parky denholm didnât like LBB 815P so got LTY 126L back Martin Harrison was given PTY 334M new â â â â â â â 220 then later when the first 1418 mercs
came parky denholm got one new and JOE Pepper got LTY 126L.
The last 240 Gardner was a seddon/atkinson 400 series full sleeper STY 39S IT TO HAD THE AWFULL 8speed d/b gearbox this went to John Yendell from new then Terry Middleton got it.
This is how i remember it at the time any old waugh drivers etc want to add please do.
HI YA, f7sidd sorry i donât know where that photo was taken it was in a box of photos that came from scotland, could be an open cast coal site, or a new road cutting, they donât seem to be very deep for that seam of coal, normally in opencast operations you wouldnât be on the top trimming the load like they are, maybe had a bit fiddle going eh
here is a couple more photos some of the older drivers will know where this Mcphees was taken, bumper
hi 8lx brian thatâs some names form the past i worked for brownlees at that time drove an albion then a andy cap guy in them daysâ if your interested big kris jimmy hill joe pepper kev mac and a few more of the lads are having a drink at the labour club in the toon on 27th dec from 2.30 onwards , your more than welcome, and if any other driver fancies a pint and natter your welcome as well, is george beatty still kicking about, he was a regular at the tallyo, great days
