Hi Bumper, I just wonder who you were driving for in 1966, I remember having a chat with you In The Cotesgate Cafe at Beatock one Sunday in 1973 I was delivering a load of lime to a farm in that area, You were driving a Volvo for J J Brownlee Ltd at this time. I was driving my first wagon, A Foden 8 wheeler tipper 531 DXP. IIRC You were going to load mining machinery gear from Anderson Boyes at Motherwell, IIRC They also had a depot, on the A 1 at Gateshead., Happy Days IMO, Regards Larry.

Lucozade Atkinson, probably doing LDOY trials at Team Valley. The Lucozade factory was just up the road from our house in Longbenton and it provided many a youngster with refreshment (ahem) usually after spending all day playing in the valley opposite Gibson Plant or the local woods. I used to love to see those 8 wheelers coming in and out the gates. Franky.
Hi Larry you mentioned Anderson Boyes mining machinery Motherwell,I have on a couple of occasions loaded conveyor rollers and conveyor belt support stands (known as “Rope Belt” ) from Anderson Mavor in the Motherwell area possibly Holytown in the late 1960s to be taken to Distington Engineering Co at Workington who then supplied the various NCB regional stores with various items of mining machinery. I assume this was all the same company.

Great shots of the Vaux Horse Dray which look like they are two Percherons in the harness. Kendal and the surrounding area had about 12 or 15 Vaux pubs ( Formerly Whitwell Mark’s) and Vaux used to send their superb Drays down for the County Show and the Torchlight procession both held in September. The ■■■■ & Dolphin near Netherfield bridge, a Vaux Pub, had two excellent stable stalls from years past so the Vaux Percherons and the Draymen/ Ostlers were always located at the ■■■■ & Dolphin while in the town. The same Sunderland Lads came for a number of years in the late 80’s early 90’s and as we lived close by Anne and I used to frequent the ■■■■ & Dolphin along with other family members so we got to know these Lads from Sunderland ( and could they sup oh! aye !) Often at closing time ( midnight hic hic) we’d go into the stable to see the two “Big Boys” and they would each be fed three or four packets of Polo Mints each, absolute pure gentlemen and at 17/18 hands they were always most impressive. Bewick.
