I only loaded hay once when at Cookies, the field was on a slope the load
was dead straight on a 55 foot trailer, great until I was out of the field
and on the road it looked like the leaning tower of Pisa destination was
Holland, I pushed it straight with the yard forklift it must have got there
because the empty trailer came back and nowt said, I only took it to Hull.

We would do the odd load for Harry Nattrass the hay & staw dealer from Sacriston. His son Norman who had been loading the stuff most of his life always said if loading in the field and there was a slope get the front of the waggon facing down the slope. This was in the day of hand balling small bales and it was put four courses on and rope them, then go eight high in total.
