Micky Price thats a blast from the past, the last time I saw him he was in our garage at Stannington with a Magnum, He was reparing a Tilt Trailer he got a mudwing off us, He was very pally with Donald Slater, he ran a Leyland 8 wheel bulker with a blower on, Is Micky still about ?, Regards Larry.
The Port Services Cafe on the Birtley By Pass, Not very popular I recall, most North East drivers went through Birtley in those days, the by pass was a heavier pull both ways, Regards Larry.

Still one or two flats about jimbo but not that many all fabricating & heavy manufacturing disapearing from the North East now. Had 29yr ropes & Sheets but apart from a month I did for Ray Wright the last 9yr been Tanks then curtains. How long since you lived over here .
Hiya Greek,
Been here in US going on 15 years now. Drove 7.5t Ford D series for Crossleys BM at Birtley, working in the yard, I was asked to do a temp driving fill in for regular van driver, ended up doing about 8 years as “temp” driver, then got moved up the company a bit.LOVED IT. We had two Commer Flats and a Bedford CF at the time, three great HGV drivers, Arthur Pearson, Gordon Bennet, and Ricky Callaghan, Mel Davidson drove the CF, when he left I got the "fill in’ job. Eventually the two Commers were replaced with the Dseries . I was told I would get Grandfathered to HGV when that came in but our Gaffer at the time just ignored it, eventually when he decided to claim, it was too late and I never got the HGV.
Then again, he was so good that one day I was to do the Alnwick run, and it had snowed like stink, roads closed, keep off A1 but he decided it didnt apply to us…I got to the Tuns in Birtley before Diesel froze, and had to get pulled back…Happy Days.

Anyone remember “the port” cafe Birtley
Hello ■■■■■,
Used to wander into the Port on the odd occasion, and fill me dad’s car up there believe it or not. Never ate there, but it was easy to nip through the back fence from Portobello without getting on the by-pass.
