An interesting pic I got from a local history site, it shows Northumberland St around 1949-53, this was worked out by others that recognised different things in the photo that gave the date around this time. It was the column of lorries on the left that interested me, I noticed after enlarging the pic that they all belonged to Andrews Liver Salts who had their place in Gallowgate, Scott and Turner who manufactured the famous brand had their offices overlooking the church of St Andrews so named the company as such. I was wondering where this convoy may be headed or may have come from, anyone any idea if this was a normal practise and what might be behind the photo. Cheers Franky.

Apologise for not getting back to Bigal and Kev for my query on Bill Luntley, it was sad to see the message from Ftroop that he had passed away last year, I hadnât heard anything, I recall someone saying he may have had a dicky heart a few years back. He was certainly a character and as some said mad as a hatter, I first came across him when I started at Alfie Ellis late 60âs with the other Fitters some may know, Ian Forrest, Dave Burns, Freddy Jones (Foreman) Tommy Hands and Old Roy Budd also a young time served lad Paul Sore, me and my two mates as apprenticeâs had many laughs and memories and were taught our skills by these knowledgeable and experienced blokes. I often worked with Bill so got to know him well before he departed Ellisâs this was after he turned an artic over during a road test, he could be a little wild when driving and he was still a young guy then so a volatile mix. He went to Waughâs after that and Ian would later join him when Ellis had wrapped up. It was many years later when I met him again at Fergusons when not long after he became Workshop Foreman there until I believe his retirement, it was nice to chat and remember old times. RIP Billy mate.
Franky.
Franky it was a shock to hear about Billy. Youâve dragged up a few more names from the past, Paul Sore and Ian Forest I knew from Waughs, Ian left there and went to S N Brewery, he later came back as Fleet Engineer when Arnold Hogarth retired. Freddie Jones often called in the yard when passing, he was an O/D on Formica at the time. Iâve seen him once or twice in the last few years when visiting the Honeyfarm. Regards Kev.

yes larry, i remember p g waltons, it was a corrugated tin garage on saltmeadows road, i think he only had a few waggons,he had mini coopers, some people said that he had them in the monte carlo rally, albany motors stands exactly where his garage used to be,big al.
Remember Pip Walton did rally cars not sure about the Monte Carlo though, Geoff Cook did the Monte in a Sunbeam Rapier. I remember my father telling me about Pip running into the gates at Hopperton Railway crossing one morning think he was in a Jag at the time.

Spot on âbigalâ Thatâs the number earley 50s reg, Regards Larry.
Cheers for that info Larry, I was wondering if maybe the convoy was heading for the Docks, Kev Ian was a nice bloke I did see him once or twice when he was at Waughâs, Paul Sore went to Jakey Adams when he left Ellisâs but Iâm not sure for how long he was only about 21 then. Bigal I wonder if the Dave Burns you knew was the same lad Iâm sure he worked at Cawthornâs before Ellisâs as he seemed to know the score with the Mercâs we had then, he was injured in the yard one day when the forklift he was on went into a pot hole and turned over, I think it damaged a leg I never saw him after that. Freddy Jones did have his own motor a tipper for a while I believe, he was a well built lad with thick fair hair and his Dad also Fred drove for Ellis too. Just checked my last post and I got two names wrong for the Ellis fitters, they were Tommy Heads and old Roy Moon (get names mixed with lads I knew in the army these days), Roy was a funny bloke he had various rude names for Tony Blackburn when the lads put the ânewâ Radio One station on, he couldnât stand the music they played then! Happy Days Franky.

Hi, âPostalâ, Thank you for the PM, Can you remember these Armstrong Motors, Regards Larry.
Now that Guy Steer ( without the cattle box) is a motor I would have fancied in the day, I wonder if it was a factory built one or a Primrose/TGB Motors conversion of a Warrior four wheeler and would it have had the Leyland 375 engine or the AEC 7:7 ? Great shot though all the same, Cheers Dennis.
what a coincidence larry, i raced at brough park in the 70,s i had a yellow cadillac, it was mike parkers setup, called hell drivers, got any pic,s larry, big al.
