night shift bri:
I see Alex Smiles has gone down the plughole.Alex must be turning in his grave, it’s only took the sons two years to run it into the ground. I put ten years in for him on the scrap and rock tippers, what an experience!!0

Just had a look at the Sunderland Echo online, appears to be have been some kind of dispute rumbling on with the Council and Enviroment Agency about the amount of material waiting to be recycled in the yard. Think the taxpayer may be lumbered with the clean up bill.

Hi Keith 8357 Great photos !! I went to school in Washington and couple of lads my age had Father’s working at Calders. Used to often see the wagons in the Village or on Spout Lane.
The BRS motors brought back a few memories I worked in the fitting shop at TVTE 1970 / 72.
Also well remember Roys at Birtley, had a yard behind Station Lane and also on the Ind Est next to Blythes Bricks
I knew Norman Stokoe at D & A and what did they call the TM Billy ■■? (I think)
We used to do most of the transport for Briggs Amasco who had the yard behind George Barker on Station Lane ind est.
