0Larry the National Benzole truck has just reminded me, they used to deliver a load of petrol every day into our yard when we were doing the lime spreading with the GMCs and the Canadian Fords. The driver was Billy Coxon his brother ran a haulage fleet out of Burnhopefield I think he had AECs painted black from memory. Can you remember them?
The driver in the picture is called Harry Patterson, who lived at Benwell, The only haulage firms I can remember are Eric Dews, & Atkinsons Transport , Mickey Rouse drove for the latter 50/60s.Regards Larry.
The Coxons Transport I remember was from Anfield Plain in the 50/60s, They had black wagons, Crows at Gateshead bought a 4 wheeler Seddon off them, Regards Larry.

0The good old days, Plenty of time for a cuppa,No option Eh.
Hi Larry no time for a cuppa with no ropes and sheets on as you would not dare leave your wagon or when you returend half the load would be missing because the fruit men would take off what they had ordered and you would no have a clue, therefore no clear signature Regards crowbar

Aye too bloody right Crowbar, remember they used to come with a scap of paper with the ammount of boxes they wanted, thats when they selling them straight off the wagon, you had to have eyes in the back of yoyr head to watch the thieving gits.
Any one know who owned this company?

Hiya Vic, the Richardson brothers started this company, sadly both now passed on (Reg and ?) still run by a couple of the sons, they run white Iveco Stralis (about a dozen I think), a good mate of mine drives for them and has done for about 25 years. Regards, Mizzo.

I think Coxons used to do the work out of Ransome Marles Bearings, also Stevie Atkinson, I was told he ended up running Ferndale Transport at Teeside ? Regards Larry.
Hi…I am new to all this so please take it easy with me Greek was trying to find out about another firm spennymoor with vans, if it was not Williams,Hardwicks or Worthington it could have been Phil Atkinson he died pretty youngish and was based at Tudhoe Ind Est worked for Tomado and did one or two removals cannot think of any other kind of traffic like those mentioned, there was Barry Hindmarch (Oughton Carriers) but his box vans delivered cigarettes.
Eddie Worthington (All the best)
