Great photo, IMO J.R.Adams has one of the best liveries & motors, Plus some great drivers who have worked there for years, Keep them rolling, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Larry has Adamsy decreased in size over the last few years they don’t seem as prolific
as in days of yore, but then again I don’t hit the road as often as I used to.
thanks harry long retired.

Fergusons FL7 burnt out in 1998.

ahhhh so a fergy volvo did have a use after all…the best thing i liked about these motors was getting out of them ,yep iguess you ould say fergies wasnt a happy time , well driving wise but the lads were canny mind

The FL7 was the end of my driving career too and it was a Fergies motor, couldn’t pull me out of bed, I’d had enough after that wagon, had it from new too maybe I should have put a light to that one! Franky.

Is this the one that took fire going up the Houghton Cut ?, IIRC the turbo went off with a bang & the oil slashed onto the Curtainsider & the load was badly burnt, I got the job of taking the stuff back on a stepframe Nissan trailer to various places, Talent at Aycliffe, Woodheads also Aycliffe & another drop at Shildon there was a nasty smell from the burnt plastic parts, Regards Larry.

Just had a look at the picture on page 162, it was the Houghton Cut fire certainly made a mess, wonder if that was my old motor, reg J117 JFT, it had a lucky escape a few years before, the night men sometimes used our motors and we had an agency guy in for a couple of weeks, I done my nut though cos he kept climbing onto my bed with his dirty boots. Bob Brown gave him an older wagon to use the next night and he turned it over on the sharp slip road bend to Washington off the AIM, load of empty stillages too, I had to collect the trailer next day when they had righted it. Have to say my unit was immaculate when I left it and Fergies but I never did get to like it. Here it is in Rolls Royce one winters day.

Ahh no worries Kev, I have Anth looking for it for me. I’m at Scania Washington now & so is Anth I got him a job here about 6 months after I started. Were both rotating the breakdown van week on week off atm, hopefully won’t be on the tools full time for to much longer though . How are you keeping?

I’m sound Nick, enjoying retirement most of the time!! I’m still looking for something to do with a bit of my spare time but nothing’s come up yet. Ps I didn’t know Anth had left. Regards Kev.
