hello lawrence,i saw frankie about 25 years ago at the peugeot dealers at hexham,i know it was after they packed in,how is Sid,never saw eye to eye with him but at least they got me experience.
that photo of Goddards you mention sold out to Walker Bros, thats another big firm that has’nt been mentioned much,i remember as a kid going with my dad a lot,he had a T.K. six wheeler at the time.Funnily enough i can still remember the reg.KNL 285 E,that was over 40 years ago,a couple of drivers i remember was Micky Hepple(i think)on an Albion artic, and a bloke called Tony who drove a Dodge, its weird how you can remember reg’s but not names.
One other driver comes to mind,i think his nickname was Tommy three lips(i think)but not to his face, whenWalkers finished he went to work for a relative of his,i cant rember the name but it was a blue Roadtrain from up Elsdon way,i used to see him when we used to do the slabs from North Shields to Spartan Redheugh.thats the place you had to be good when reversing on your blind side,i used to enjoy that job, until the day i lost a 7 and a half ton slab off,but thats another story. :unamused:
