Hello Geordie, don’t suppose you have any pics of your Dad when he was at Alfie Ellis, I’d love to see one of those motors again, probably one of the few firms that hasn’t had a photo on here. Ref your photo the lad at the back on the far right has a familiar face, I wonder if he later worked for Steenburgs. Cheers Franky.

Aye Franky it would be great to see some of their wagon photos on hear after all he ran a big fleet in his day, A good pal of mine drove for him The late Billy Maddox, Also the late Geo McGurke (Squeak), Two great drivers, Regards Larry.

little ha ba:
if my memory is right was tennick know previously as barrons transport

Yea,Barrons based at Spennymoor, they moved to Toft Hill and the engineer called Tennick took over and the name changed, the fleet and workshops were second to none,i delivered fuel to both depots over the years, can’t remember Tennick’s first name but he was a good bloke to get on with.

I think the garage was round the back of the old Co-op (now Ken Warne’s). I remember thet used to have a bonnetted 1418 Merc parked there amongst others.

Hi Larry Bit of useless info but when I went to Gateshead Tech with Alfie Ellis’ son in 1970 /71. Don’t know what happened to him after that.

Another old Northeast Haulier still going, This is Freddie Lowdons Tipper, Loaded for the off, Regards Larry.

This one is David Lowdons Tipper A remarkable R reg still earning its keep, Regards Larry.

here’s some photo’s I took on the A68 near Castleside many years ago most of the firms with the exception of Elddis are no longer with us, the Robsons truck was photographed parked overnight on Castleside Ind. Estate, Direct was at their factory at Shildon ( I think this unit belonged to Vipond who I am led to believe operates a timber truck these days) Gibson likewise at their depot at Heighton, Marley and Maddison where both taken at Witton Castle truck show. regards prattman.

T.O.Harrison Ltd , were in Ormesby Rd, Middlesbrough,I think they were nationalised after WW2,notice the h/lamp covers & white wing edges, I know the driver 2nd left was Bill Raw,

United bus Co. had a parcel service in the North East, this shot was at the Middlesbrough bus station about 1948,of my brother who learnt to drive there,

Are there any photos of Davidsons of Coundon. I remember them being pretty big at one time, a large fleet of blue ERF tippers?

Being a Mackem ( I blame my parents) any photos info on Mitchell freight - turquoise Clydesdales I think and Lawson freight who seemed to get all over despite only having Merc vans and a small number of rigids. Also not strictly speaking a haulier but any photos of Alan Davison civil engineers Herrington Burn and later Newburn and MGL who were their quarry co. - MGL were red white and blue Leylands and Sed Atkis but now appear to be demolition contractors in the regular Davison colours. Finally G M Pearson, before they went under they ran a large haulage operation Sed Aks, Foden and a couple of ERFs when everyone was shifting coal - even the local builders merchant Hinds bought a couple of Magirus 8 wheelers. Any pics would be appreciated.
