Whilst ā€˜Surfing the net’ today, I see that long established company Simpson Bros (Tyneside)Ltd has a winding up petition, filed on 24th. May. I can remember their fleet of Seddon 4 wheelers (many moons ago) Sad to see another haulage company finish.

Different Simpson Bros?

Hello Jasper thanks for that, is Bobby still working ā– ā– , it’s plagued me for
years wondering did he get away with it, I think Bobby was a bit like me
not at all into the car transporting, we was just unfortunate our motors
being fitted with PTOs so able to work the hydraulics on the car trailers I
was never given any instruction it was assumed I’d know how to go on, in
truth I hated the car job and was more at home on the general haulage
side of things, anyway hope to hear from Bobby soon.
thanks harry, long retired.

Jim, I used to have a drink with your dad in the club or the Red Hackle on the estate, my dad’s cousin John Joyce was the steward of the club for many years. When we worked for Waughs I sometimes gave your dad a lift home as I lived in Wansbeck Road at the time. Needless to say we always called in for a drink. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Good memories, thanks for bringing them back. Regards Kev.

Great pics from Witton Castle, iirc that smart F88 belonged to an OD. Last time I saw it was round the back of Volvo at Washington looking proper sorry for itself. Has nobody got any pics or tales from Redpaths of Wooler or Bells of Ashington who were both swallowed up by the mighty ā€œF Troopā€ from Blyth, or what about the James Gang from the same neck of the woods?

Until the last month or so before the big tidy up to sell the yard i had a printed fly sheet that was old and knackered in tje yard from Bells of Ashington, The old man used to pull a load of fibreglass parts up from somewhere near Melton Mobray to a caravan company just off the A 1 just south of South Shields, I did the run a couple of times, Must be where the sheet came from I suppose !. Have no idea how we got the job from them and the old man aint around to ask now.
Not our Normal work but made a change from running a tanker and you could just get the trip in a flat day with a few mins to spare if you were lucky.
I was asked to bring an urgent important envelope and a small box back once to the fibreglass yard in Melton, he insisted it travelled in the cab, would not take No for an answer, so I put it on the bed an forgot it when i dropped the empty frames trailer back…The old man found it two days later when setting off with the tanker to Spain ! Serves em right, had it been on the back with the frames it would have arrived same day !!!. The cab is my space…The Old Man did not see my point of view and was not chuffed as I remember.

hi harry
i have been reliably informed that simpsons are still trading, but under simpsons logistics not simpson bros tyneside, that company no longer exists!
cheers
mick
