Hello Daveymk,
Your memory is still good,Fred did drive one of the Spanish Dodges for Theo James, olso i think the late Bob Dunn [RIP] drove one too,
I beleive he then went on to drive for Tommy Dodds, then to Fergusons when Fergusons took over Dodds Transport.

Regards

F Troop.

some more long departed firms from Consett, the Lewins removal lorries were photographed on the car park of the one time Villa Real transport cafe, the
GNR lorries bring back fond memories as this is where I started my transport career starting out as a second man then driving a small CF Bedford van, onto a seven and half tonner then passing my HGV and driving the vehicles seen here mainly the Ford D-series. regards prattman.

Think mate of mine drove for Ridley pratman Henry Carr?, Not sure if someone else I Knew Eddy Kenniford Might have Drove for them he drove for Kings at Gateshead for quite a While (fiddle must have been good  )

Well its nice to hear that Freddie is still about, He was great crack in the old days & I enjoyed his company, The next time you see him give him my regards, PS, Does he still like the brown bomber stuff.■■?, Regards Larry.

hello greek
you are correct Henry Carr did work for Ridley alongside Joe Robson who sadly passed away a few years ago they both left Ridleys after a good few years service and went to Hodgsons at the Hobson Bunopfield who in turn was taken over by Gallachers I believe Henry stayed till the end through the TAL saga.
About two years ago I was parked at Killington Lake Services on the M6 next to an Elddis truck when the driver returned to it turned out to be Henry, we spent a few minutes chatting he told me he was driving for them for three days a week, have tried to keep an eye out for him since but with no joy so I do’nt know if he is still there. the other name you mentioned did not ring any bells, there was a Jackie Lax, Jackie Appleton and a few lads who were ex Whitfield Removal men.If any more names come to mind I will give them a mention. regards prattman.

thanks for the comments Larry, will post more salkelds later for the time being heres more Glendinnings, also Gallachers first lorries and Cookies from the late sixties when I used to go to their depot as a teenager at first taking photos then later on riding shotgun with some of the drivers on local deliveries this is how I spent my weekends and school holidays. Regards Gary.

Hi Gary, great pictures of the old vehicles in the consett area, especially the old Siddle cook motors. My dad Peter was very busy there as he started signwriting his vehicles mid to late 60’s.The Scammell XUP 999F was one that he lettered too.(I would love to see a photo of that truck again). He told me ages ago that Siddle was changing to a new colour scheme- a “(zb) brown colour with a white band” around the cab.Dad suggested that it would be better to include a black coach line separating the white and brown colours to make it stand out more. All his trucks were painted and lettered this way, before the introduction of vinyl graphics took over. Regards Phil.

Aye Prattman Henry still does wed -fri out of Consett I worked with Henry at both Armstrongs & Gallachers. I posted a pic of both me & Jackie Apelton on page 221 loading out of Lowerstoft.

Phillbutler could be a paint job for you at Elddis they are restoring the 1st Scammel Siddle Cook had

Hi v7victor,

Thanks for putting Scammell picture on here again, Siddle bought that truck in last months of 1969, Dad was just about finishing the lettering, when he got a call, from St Mary’s Hospital Jesmond, to say that he was about to become a father again. (I was born November 10th 1969). To this day he doesnt know how fast he travelled from consett to jesmond.

I do know that this truck was restored in Siddles colours in 1980’s by a Scammell enthusiast. Don’t know if the truck survives today, or has been cut up or shipped off to warmer climates.
Maybe Greek knows which Scammell, Elddis is restoring now, definately Dad wont be lettering it as he retired back in early 90’s.

Thanks again v7victor and Greek.
