Here’s another of those abnormal loads being moved from the old BRS depot Team Valley by Johnsons of Barton. ( I think they’re air conditioning or refrigeration units) I havn’t been able to catch any of the crews to find out where they’re going but I’ll keep trying. Regards Kev.0
Hi Kev,They are data storage units, they get bolted together to make one big unit, they are being shipped to Holland
Regards Rob
Thanks Rob, they will hold some data in that lot when they are bolted together!!! regards Kev.

Hi, Leyland600,
Your story about just getting tipped after a day of delays in Shields reminded me of a day with three drops on ,on the bottom was countless pieces of plate for the shipyard at Beverley, on top of that was a load of empty pallets for Croda Chemicals in Hull and at the front was some small castings for British Waterways at Goole. Goole was the first drop, Hull the second. This is a Friday dinnertime and had just got the ropes off waiting for a forklift to take the pallets off when the fire alarms start to go, the sulpher store had caught fire. We had to take the truck out so the fire engine could get in and by the time all that’s finished and I’m tipped it’s half past three.
Over to Beverley, get there about four fifteen, the gateman say’s you’ve no chance driver, we shut at four thirty ,come back Monday. I told him about the fire and spun him a line about the trailer being needed for the night trunk. He went to see some one in the office. Man in a suit comes out and asks a few questions and said they wee going to ring Croda to see if it was true, if it was they would see if anyone would stop back to tip me . Ten minutes later he come’s out and say’s OK we will tip you , but not until six, so go to the cafe down the road and come back at six.
There i am at six waiting at the gate and the man in the suit comes ,takes me round to the stockyard , and there is the office staff waiting to tip me.Was I surprised, none of the yard staff would stop back cos it was Friday. So the office staff had to do it cos they needed the plate. It took bit longer than with the usual men but I got tipped, and was told that they hoped it was a long time before they saw me again! Or words to that effect.Where was I at eight on Monday morning, no prizes for guessing!
hi lads, franky think van hee depot Williams st was Mckay’s pop factory,S&N took them over and like everything else that S&N go their hand on they closed it down, bumper

larry, what happened on sunday me les and ftroop spent hours putting buntings out for your arrival
jeh
Well I broke down at Felton, So I checked the owld motorover but couldnt find anything to cause the stoppage, However Crowbar pulled in behind me with his R/Rover, & he also had a look at the distributor & there was no spark at all ■■?, While we were attending to the matter Bang , an mini driven by a young lady hit the back of Crowbars R/R, & ended up the enbankment, But Im pleased to say appart from serious damage to the Mini & very little damage to Crowbars Motor no one was injured , so that was a relief to say the least, Anyway David Hogg towed me back to his Uncle Murrays place at Felton, But by the time I got back to Sandy Lane it was too late for me to come up to the show. On the Monday I took a spare coil down to Colin to see if this was the problem, Anywya he rang me Monday teatime with the good news, the owld K2 was fired up & running as smooth as a babies bottom. Now I have to tell the truth the whole truth & nothing but the truth, I had run out of petrol, mind you the gauge was showing 3/4s full & I was told that there was plenty of fuel in it, But then I find out from Colin that he was told after the event by , I wont mention names, that this K2 Austins fuel gauge never worked correctley all the years they owned it, But I will take the blame for not dipping the bloody tank because I do not trust fuel gauges, In fact I drove an owld Albion Cheiften 723,BBB, That had a wooden dipstick to check the fuel, But I will be back next year, thats If Im spared to enjoy more driving old motors & visiting the shows, Regards Larry.

hiya,
Larry I hope you realise even on the BRS if you ran out of fuel you had to clock off
until underway again, rules are rules, no exceptions light, pay packet next week.
thanks harry, long retired.
Harry ■■, A light pay packet, dont tell my good lady she might stop my pocket money before the weekend, I will have to rob a bank to get some drinking money for Sat, See you there Regards Larry.
Harry Ive managed to get over the weekend event of running out of petrol, But it could be worse at home if I ran out of single malts, Wouldnt you agree, It would be unforgiveable to say the least, Im savouring a BENROMACH Single malt this very minute, lovley jubbley as Del Boy would say, I will have some in my hip flask for you to taste on Sat, Along with a Speyside also, Regards Larry.

Cheers Bumper, I was still trying to remember the name after Kev mentioned it, the place is empty now, not a thing in the yard. If I remember! I’ll take a pic of the wall mural before it goes as later on somebody is bound to ask about it and what it looked like. Shame I can’t get to Saturday I’ll be down Walsall swinging the light! Have a good night and hope plenty turn up. Cheers Franky.

Hi Lawrence, Your unfortunate account of running out of petrol with the Austin K2 and its ramifications are not pleasant experiences when you are supposed to be enjoying yourself driving an old wagon to a rally. Mentioning a wooden dipstick for an Albion Chieftain, would this be for a standard Albion 25 gallon tank. I have had one in my possesion since 1978 when I acquired the former garage premises of W.P.Bell & Sons at Wigton, where I found this Albion tank dipstick hanging up on its nail near the fuel pump as it had done since the mid 1950s to my personal knowledge. Bell,s ran an immaculate small fleet of around seven wagons 5 Albions, a Leyland Comet and a Ford 4D mainly hauling animal feeds from Spillers, and Ranks at Newcastle and BOCM at Selby loading over from ■■■■■■■ with Quaker Oats, Marchon chemicals and Distington Engineering Co moulds etc.
Cheers,
Leyland 600.
Regarding the Derry, ■■? I hanent heard anything , but I did read about Exelby Garage getting the go ahead to move their business to a new location , nearer to the main Rd as the new road system is causing them some great losses in revenue, So perhaps this is affecting the old Derry in the same way since the road was changed, I know a lot of drivers called the old Derry & didnt like it but it was allways full up in my day , going back to 1957 when I first went into the cafe, It was good nosh & reasonabley priced to suit the drivers pocket, so if this is true, theres another Transport Cafe less, Im sure there will be a lot of the old school drivers like myself sorry to see it close down, Happy Derry Days long gone now , but never to be forgotten, Regards Larry.

Very interesting L600,it sounds like a nice little operation, whatever happened to the firm ? did someone buy them out? They must have operated on an “A” licence with that spread and variation of traffic. Cheers Bewick.

Is that right the Derry is closing again at the end of November ■■
Your right Davy, I was in the Derry today and the signs are up for closure on the 2nd Nov. I’m not suprised really as the place has been deserted everytime I have been in over the last year. Regards Kev.
