I wonder how many modern day drivers would be able to load a wagon like that with an average household removal from the 20’s and early 30’s with the amount of furniture and effects found in a house in those days and transport it without any damage. Dad explained to me how it was done, ensuring that the load was squared off to sheet and rope, and keeping the furniture and effect dry as they loaded often on rainy days.
It was an art and often the loads were very high.

hi ray leggy mentioned j brownlee, ray that atki you said you back loaded was driven by phillip, johns son,if i remember right old bill myatt bought that motor off brownlee, when brownlee changed to artic’s, we did load off old bill quite a bit in the mid 60tys. at that time i drove the albion tractor unit JJR642D, sadly both old john and phillip died,also most of the lads that work there have passed on, big norman , little bruce ,jacky phillips,to name a few,brownlee was a great firm to work for,
