I remember seeing those Nigeria Road Service Volvos at the Woodside cafe at Rawcliffe now and again - if you could get in for John Foremanās motors.

Chris Webb:
I remember John Foremans when they were running out of BP at Saltend,F86s I think and I was in an AEC MK3 or a MK5 if you were lucky.
I worked for A.E.Evans Sheffield depot and we had a Hull based driver called Kenny Vint working out of BP and Amoco at Easington North Sea Gas terminals. He had an accident somewhere near Patrington, the Mandator and 6000 galls of gas condensate overturned, caught fire, killing Ken.Iād left Evans then but I think it was around 1979/80 when this happened. An old pal of mine,ex Evans, sent me these photos of the AEC and trailer when it was in Foremansā yard.
It was on this bend where the wagon went over.Thatās my matesā Buffalo in the lay-by and the wagon finished up in that field.
Kenny drove for another company out of Saltend before he worked for Evans, maybe Harold Wood,Iām not sure.He was a great bloke and was sadly missed by the lads that knew him.I do recall he was ex Royal Navy or Merchant Navy as he used to take the p*** out of me,being ex RAF .
HI Chris, You are correct Kenny Vint was a workmate of my dad Stan Rennison at Harold Woods, I remember him being very upset at the time, also there were a couple of other tanker drivers from Hull killed, i will have to ask my younger brother about them , I think one was Jack Howell,
Jimmy Miller had a big accident near Boroughbridge and luckily survived.
cheers
Paul
I was working out of BP Saltend at the time and had to wash out at Foremans when BP wash packed in. I remember the burnt out tanker very well.
There were a few rubberneckers about at the time.
Another firm from Paull, nr Hull, working out of BP at the time was Bulk, do you remember this fellow?
Gilbraith thought we were having too many dodgy nights out at Bury nr home so he started some Hull drivers on the contract. Three came from Bulk and they had just as many dodgies at Woodside as we did at Bury so it still cost the same in night out money. I donāt know why Gilbraith bothered, BP repaid all the expenses anyway.
Those Hull drivers spent more time in Woodside than they did at home.
Bulk Storage became Hoyers. I worked with a lad from Paull called Paul. He was an apprentice with bulk Storage before going to work for IBC on Hedon Road
Another new Mercedes 2033 ready for the road supplied by Humberside Motors at Newport.
Dave Murray and Colin Fenn started at Gilbraith Tankers when they took on three drivers for the Hull BP contract. I donāt know what happened to them when we lost the BP work, did they get back on at Bulk?
I had many nights out with Bulk drivers when we were all at BP. We parked a lot on the Moon Inn car park at Spondon next to Celenese.
Thanks for the photo of Colin in the F7, great shot.
was wondering when someone was gonna send in some pics ov bulk storage.any one got any ov h&p freightways they been on the go a few years now. kenny matthews use to run some in there colours from old wembley cafe newport east yorks.
Brian Gray is in the Fiat, the first F7 is Dave Murry and the second F7 Colin Fenn.
Yes we stayed as Bulk Storage until bought by Hoyer.

Spud
Hi Spud,
Do you remember Vic Rutland, shop steward at Bulk? another two characters who worked for Bulk out of BP when I did were Walter the Ukraine and an older chap called Jack who was on a flat carrying drums. I left BP contract to go on ICI contract about 1986
When did Hoyer take over Bulk and did Colin and Dave go back to Bulk when Gilbraith came of the contract and they had to finish?
JohnyRose63:

Hi
Yes I remember Vic and Walter, there was also Brian Gray, George Carter, Phil Scott, Pete Griffin, Bob Hanson, Les ?, Dave Murray, Colin Fenn, Tommy Chapman on tankers.
Jack (Hopper), Alan, Geoff, Jim & Barrie on flats with Ken Brown as the local shunter
I cannot remember if Dave an Colin went back, somewhere I have a group photo, which Iāll have to dig out.
Thanks for the memories Spud.
I remember all the names of the tanker lads but only Jack Hopper from the flats.
I would love to see the group photo if you can find it, email it me if you donāt want to put it on the forum.
Were you a driver there in those days, if so I must have come across you at some stage.
I used to go into BP regularly from Shell Stanlow from 1970 until 1977 then I was on the BP contract for about 10 or 11 years after that.
We used to lodge up Spring Bank until we got the High Datum Roadtrains and then we started using the sleeper cabs on Park Street. There was a good boozer near by where we were well fed and watered.
On the odd Friday of I was staying out I would park in BP yard and go with one of Bulkās drivers to the Country and Western night at a Club between Saltend and Paull.
JohnyRose63:
anyone got any old pics ov mat . brittannia freight. neil and brown. jd riby. panalpina. that would be nice. regards johny rose.
Heyup Johny Rose, there is a thread on here dedicated to MAT and Brittania Express, there are loads of pictures of MAT motors but no pictures of the Brittania Express Kangeroos that were on the Perkins contract to Belgrade.
