Old Hull Haulage companys

I first met Alan Malc on my way backfrom the Smoke running empty i think about 1962 whils i was employed by Len Dunlin
Alan was broken down on the A 1 near or just north of Huntingdon… He was half loaded cant recall what with and i cant recall his truck but it belonged to John KAY from Hull… so being the kind hearted fellow that i am we found a ramp and loaded Alans Motor on to the back of mine chained it on and delivered it to Kays Yard the following morning
i thought i had doe my good deed and was expecting a thank you in the shape of at least a couple o quid
all i got was thank you :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Both Bill and Alan worked for JB Kay and then started up with one motor from his mums house at Newland near Eastrington. I used to spend all my spare time up at the new yard when they had got quite succesful. Alan went in the office on KG Dock. Bill ran the yard and Barry drove for them. There is another brother called Brian but he didn’t get involved. Bill married one of the Bayrams from North Newbald and the transport mafia was born

We were supposed to be talking all about this at your house with Rose bringing me cups of tea. I just haven’t got my arse into gear yet. Sorry.

It is quite sad but I can still remember most of the registration numbers and drivers.

There were two George Carters who worked for Bulk Storage Transport at Paull, they were father and son.

George senior was very much into CB his handle being Bigfoot.

Cheers Spud Both good friends o mine. i think George lives on Orchard park Must try his land line

ncooper:
Not quite so old but definitely from Hull.

This was the first truck I drove which would accelerate uphill at 39 tonnes

and the first truck I drove abroad, starting at the outskirts of Paris
It’s sister, B 261 YCK is alive and well and lives in a yard across the road from where I work now.

This one was bought to replace the Scania and I co-drove it to Spain as well

not to mention Birmingham

I went to Poland in this one, on my own.
The whole trip was like the Krypton factor, after each challenge there was another, more
difficult one.
It was my first solo trip abroad and despite the many setbacks, I loved it.

(Arthur was away, doing his bit for the TA.)
This cab seems to have followed me about, look what I drive now

and I was allowed to choose what I wanted.

Regards,
Nick

This is unreal! Wow, I never thought I’d see another pic of this! B261 YCK was my dad’s 1st run on Eddom’s (Hull) whilst B262 YCK was in for service at Kelly Trucks, quite locally to me in West Bromwich.B261 had the Intercooler badges on the grill. When B262 was outside our house when dad had it regular, I can remember me & me mates spinning the lifted rear axle wheels around whilst me old man removed that weird swingable centre console box to make room for his fridge. Heres a pick if it in Eddom@s guise. It sounded really meaty if my memory serves me correctly but God the ride was harsh.

What’s B261 doing now? Any pic’s■■?

Slater & Son:
B261 YCK was my dad’s 1st run on Eddom’s (Hull) whilst B262 YCK was in for service at Kelly Trucks

I only drove B 262 YCK once, from Hull, via Glasgow, Kings Lynn, Murcia(Spain), Lowestoft, Kings Lynn again and back to Hull. 8 days double manned.
Given that all my previous driving had been in trucks with less than 250 bhp, it was a real
treat, it went like a train.

B261 YCK is really very smart.
It occasionally comes out pulling a tanker.
I’ll pop across the road tomorrow and ask if I can take a photo for you.
He has two 142 Scanias.

Regards,
Nick

8 days double manning? Bet that was comfy! :open_mouth: This was a post Eddom purchase, noting the addition of the black deflectors on the front quarters - must be at least 1988?
Would really appreciate any pictures - whatever you can get, inside & out. I remember gazing out of the window at middle school late one afternoon & wondering where dad had been - we hadn’t heard from him for a few days & then B261 pulled up with a 3 axle fridge - my grin was so wide it looked like I had a coat hanger in my mouth! Rest of the parents weren’t too happy… Many thanks again, Chris.

I have in my posession qyite a number of photos from the 1900 of a lot of Hull owner drivers who worked mainly off Hull docks But as NEW BOY ON THE BLOCK 74 i cann not get my head round posting pictures… most of the subbies were working for Rix shipping off King George… Such as Stan Jewitt my boss for 6 years … and i could not have found a better boss… If i needed a bollocking which i did on many occasion it was over and done with he knew what it was all about and would not ask you to do anything he could not do himself …
