Hi. I lived in Cottingham in the 60,s and worked for some of the haulage companys. Ron Fetcher Transport, Tuttys Transport, John Longbone Transport
S D Transport,Dawn Haulage, are the few I remember

Glenn R:
S80 Foden, what were those headlights about? I beleive that Chapman-Shields just dissolved into nothing a while after Bill got killed…

I just remembered they bought a second had 6 wheeler Leyland just before I left maybe it used to belong to Nellist fruit? I know Brian from Nellist came to drive for us, he had a logo on his truck ‘Five Boys’ with the names of his sons on it.

They also got a second MAN LAT 492P same spec as the one in the photo’s. After I left they got a second hand ERF (so they must have been going bust!!) with a sleeper cab.

Chapman- Shields started container storage in my latter years, storing and repairing Russian Morflot boxes, some of the firms that used to come in to load were, Fred Gathercole, Cockerill’s of York, a Liverpool firm who’s name escapes me, John Scholey, Hammond Emmes.

Here’s some pictures of the truck racing at Melbourne near Pocklington back in 1978.

Brian was from Nellist’s, Brian Gardham, and the Five Boys were Mark, Paul, Russell, Kevin and Jason. I remember the lorry as I’m Mark, all the boys while growing up went out with our Dad. He went onto work for Wilkinson Brothers at Boags Yard.

Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I have happy memories of being in the various lorries with him. Couldnt miss him, big bloke who always wore a hat.

Would love to get hold of any photos of him and his lorry. Curious the driver of the tractor unit in the Lord Mayor’s Parade, who is it?
