I will keep my ear to the ground Larry.
Cheers Dave.

we are talking proper lorries now , proper gearbox , 6 speeds were for wimps . that one of larries was always my favourite marque , comfy driving position with all the controls to hand and they went well for their time with all those gears to play with . i think they were too technical for the more southerly amongst us . dave

Well Larry you could shorten it,sell the alloy body to help cover costs. It is the same cab as your old unit.It was parked up to be replaced with an 8 wheeler.

I’m going to try putting a pic on here for young leylandlover. Don’t know if it will work, though!

There ya go. Is that the one, Clive?

Those Lightweight chassis were mainly aimed at the mixer market, Tilcon had loads of them. Fodens fitted the ‘old’ S39 cab instead of the then current S83 cab to (a) reduce weight and (b) they were less prone to damage on sites and were easier to repair if they did get knocked, plus there was no fancy cab trimmings to get dirty. They fitted the later eight/nine/twelve speed (take your pick!) gearbox with the auxillary shift on the main gear lever, hypoid rear axles and used Stopmaster brakes, again to save weight, but they were not the finest braking system in the World! :unamused: Some had Super Singles fitted on the rear as well.

Pete.

Thanks Casey

You’re most welcome, my boy!

Mention of those POXY Stopmaster brakes has just rounded off a thoroughly bad day, still waiting for a dust shroud for an ABS sensor so I can’t put the trailer’s hub and disc back on. I am used to having problems finding pars for 50/60 year old vehicles, but BPW axles FFS there are thousands and thousands of them in use, so why is everything nil stock? And on top of that I could murder whoever at Utility (York) trailers decided to penny pinch with the wiring for the top marker lights - so short I can’t even get behind the lamp to cut the wiring which is in box section; I shall be attacking the thing with a disc cutter to get at it I think.

Ugh, trying to get past the walking beam and elephant’s feet on a Foden to persuade seized Stopmaster adjusters to start moving, invariably to find that the backplate slot was completely mullered. :imp:
