Regards Chris

Hello Micky, you brought back some memories there, Glad you mention the one off Guy that Barry drove, I mentioned it on the Guy thread and got no response, Barry left after it was written off in Belgium. although I never knew Mick Lawrence, the work he would have done would have been for Halpin Continental, use to be Halpin Perrpoint (spelling), the Tagg brothers became good friends of mine, last time I saw Kevin Tagg he was on for that Chocolate crowd out of Banbury, Archie was there with me, Dutch, I’d forgot about, Lou from the pub drove that awful Foden, Beesley had the Sed/Atk, George the Pole and Lionel I remember those two, what was Brian’s ? last name was in the traffic office when I was there, going down to the bank to cash wage cheques ha ha, yes !!! did anyone carry on the Lemans work after I left?

Long established in Wheatley and still going strong.
Oily

I saw a 3 series six wheel Scania 113 tipper yesterday, nothing too unusual in that except that it was in New York city.

I left Dines in 75 and some of the names you mentioned were there then eg John Plester, the Taggs, Dutchy, John Beesley, I know Dave Leadbetter worked with him and Dave Hughes at Benetton in the 90’s, Ginger Harveys son whose name I’ve forgotten worked in the garage, Brian (?) was the traffic clerk, I did’nt know Mick Lawrence,do know Barry Washbourne, I did the first run for Dines to europe as a test run, over to Ghent tip and reload out of Dieppe doubled manned in a Big J with a lad from Bicester called Les (?) ended up getting a B & B in Dieppe and the ferry the next day.
Micky1865 what was the surname of the two brothers who were on Connell and Griffin, the elder one was called Malcolm and the younger one is I think still on for Dales at Banbury.

Here you go Chazzer , was this one of dines trucks you drove ? , there looks like one in there colours behind ,plus the Marathon is a Oxford reg .I don’t recall the Marathons in there colours but Brs had some at Oxford depot when I started but they were worn out or ready for scrap.

Went over to Sheehans yard yesterday and spoke to Richard (routeman 67) ,we went toschool together , had a stroll round the yard and a chat , loved his Volvo could not believe it was 15 years old now .

He and his staff have found and restored this , cant recall the name now but Richard s dad had one of these when he started , this will look great behind a restored truck , he is looking for a F88 at a SENSIBLE price :open_mouth:  .

Jakey, that’s not one of Dines, they all had the short sleeper and if Chazzer left in 75 they didn’t have any then, first they had were on S Reg, the green one behind is a different Green , looks like one of Frederick Ray’s From Leighton Buzzard to me.

If that’s the original works colour, it’s probably a Poclain.

Jakey when I started on Dines I had a Leyland Lynx and 28 ft trailer doing runs out of Unipart to nearby storage facilities, 2 a day but mostly sat in the fork lift drivers hut reading Penthouse and Men only mags. They then gave me a Big J and put me on Cowley to all points Brum.

I think you’re right ROF. Wonder if it’s the type where the bucket tip/crowd in control was on a pedal?

Bloody hell Steve that makes me feel old. That was on order when I left.  It is in bloody good condition.
Did you see the smart new Volvo skip lorry? I wonder if Richards’ ears were burning yesterday, there was talk on the cb about recycling plants; Seemed consensus was Sheehans’ have the best one, have a look on their website it’s a hell of a size…

I remember having one for a month while the regular op was on the sick. Beat the hell out of Hi-macs and Priestmans. Or should that be Priestmen :unamused:

I drove a late Priestman-Sanderson excavator when training at the CITB college in '98. It was so hopeless it must’ve been out of date when built.

But you have to admit, it was a vast improvement on the Ruston Bucyrus!

When I started on Smiths in '99 they still had a Priestman Lion dragline as a spare to a RB 20-15. A long reach excavator that was really a dragline/excavator hybrid. I’ll find a picture of it.

I once worked on a site in Hereford with one of those beasts owned by a couple of Irish brothers. I was on hire with a Case 450 with backhoe at the time so the nearest I got to it was loading the spoil.
