Although not an Edinburgh registered company,Multiple Fruit Supplies, part of Glass Glover Distribution, had a depot at Newbridge, next to United Glass. They had the Littlewoods contract, most of the deliveries being done at night. They had a driver based at Perth who did Inverness store, his trailer trunked up to him.I think his name was Donald Davidson.Maltby depot ran 6 trunks a night to either Morpeth,Carlisle,Penrith or Lockerbie over the years and they had four drivers at Penrith, two on afternoons, two on nights, who did Ayr,Carlisle,Glasgow Sauchiehall and Glasgow Argyle Streets.
Alec Glass was the founder of GGD,he had a stall in Edinburgh fruit market in early days.

United Wire Transport. Granton Edinburgh.
They supplied wire mesh/cloth for the production of paper.
There were numerous Paper Mills within a 25 mile radius
of Edinburgh. The mills were responsible for a lot of goods being
transported by Edinburgh area Hauliers
Transporting raw materials from Leith & Granton docks and elsewhere
to the mills.
Also the transport of the Paper Mills finished products to their customers.
There were mills in Penicuik, Balerno, Inverkeithing, Guardbridge. Leslie
and West Lothian,
Dobson (Edin) Ltd was mostly responsible for the transport of Raw Material
from the Leith & Granton docks to the Mills.

Yes I agree Guiy de Montfort,
Robert Croan was a good company and kept tidy well painted lorries and
well maintained.
I worked for them in the early 60s on the night trunk from Granton to Melton Mowbray
heavy laden with fish.
It was a long trunk down the A1 in the 60s Unload & Wash Trailer then sleep in a caravan and back up the next night.
In Scammell Coupling S Type and TK Bedford Units.

Robert Croan’s was acquired by Salvesen 1972 then later acquired by J & J Denholm Glasgow.
in the 80s. But that is all history now.

by TDG never to be seen again.
