HEH the F 88 is a sorryful thing now.but there are a few that would sell and rebuild.theres a rough big J with a 180 and about four 4 wheeler ERFs
worth a look and some Albions but the cabs have gone to far…heres HEH last year I found a cab but the chap changed his mind to sell the cab.

The Smallwood show show is at the end of may this year.

Sorry to but in lads, This maybe a long shot but having read through the thread I think I’m in the right place so here goes…I’m looking for Drivers who knew my old fella, his name was John Dockerty ( Johnny Dockerty, John Dock or Peanut ) he drove for Bassetts all his driving life…over 30 yrs infact! sadly he passed away nearly 6 yrs ago whilst still working for Bassetts.
I spent every chance I could with him on the roads as a kid & have some fond memories of places, characters & trucks, some of the his old friends names escape me now but I do remember a few…Eric Beech, Bob Ellis, Stevie Card, Sir Joe Reece , Phil Chell & his very good friend Tony Harry.
My Dad drove a fair array of Bassetts wagons over the years but the one that sticks out is probably the IVECO…Ashley Bassett had never had anything this foreign in his fleet before so it did turn a few heads & always got the comment…Bassetts with an IVECO…never!! maybe you remember it? The last truck he ever drove was his beloved SCANIA N719 JFA this was when Bassetts took over Beresfords operations & started to go across the water, which allowed my old old fella to achieve a life long ambition!!
If you knew him or have some stories I’d love to them or any photos that’d be even better…many thanks lads

Archie Paice:
Hi Wheelnut, Yes I remember robin Gray had a nice little business going then, down on the Fish Dock. There was also Colin Ewen ( and his cousin I forget his name ) from Beverley, Bill Robertson up Wllerby Road, but that bloke with the f88 looks a bit like Bill Hyde from Pocklington to me, although I thought he had a Fiat then. The bloke that was the road boss on that fateful Nigeria job of Wakes´was Norman Olsen (RIP) a great bloke.
Cheers, Archie.

Bloody hell if that was Bill Hyde, I think Graylease might still be looking for that F88  Graylease are now called Gray Services and are still running a truck and trailer hire business from Hull. I think Graylease was tied to John Bogg (LinkTransport) originally.

I seem to remember Colin Ewen who had a couple of trucks near Bowkers yard I think, not sure about a cousin.

Hi Wheelnut,
Yes originally John Bogg was in with Robin Gray and it was as you so rightly sat involved with Link Transport, Graylease then went out with a bang. Robin went quiet for a few years, John Bogg bought out Slaters Transport of Kirby Misperton ( my neighbours) added it to his Link Transport ,then that all finnished, I spoke to Robin a few years ago and he was up and running again on his own and from what I gather doing rather well. Billy Hyde ■■ a great friend of mine, or was Ive not seen him for a couple of three years now, I also was very friendly with his sons, Eddie and Andrew, theres more but I won`t divulge that. No he was a good bloke to have on your side, we went to Whittles at the same time. Good old days eh? Colin Ewen also on for Whittles with a 2600 DAF, he was taken very ill in Haditha, he came home and never went away again. He still runs trucks I believe, from somewhere out by Keyingham or Ottringham, somewhere on the way to Spurn point.
Cheers, Archie

Hi Wheelnut,Colin Ewen finished last year and has moved out to Bulgaria. His mate would have been Colin Bolton which was his brother in law.
