It is probably unusual to see a Graylease Truck and Trailer in the desert. I imagine then, as now, it would be difficult to take a hire truck to a far away destination like the middle east. When Robin Gray started out he had many smaller customers and there were a few owner drivers from Hull who dabbled in the Middle Eastern routes. Bob Bradshaw (Early Riser) Kenneth Matthews (BB Read and Matthews Transport) and John Dobson (Dobsons) There were also companies such as Wake Transport who had been to Nigeria overland.
I will send a link to that picture to someone who may be able to help.
Hi Wheelnut, Yes I remember robin Gray had a nice little business going then, down on the Fish Dock. There was also Colin Ewen ( and his cousin I forget his name ) from Beverley, Bill Robertson up Wllerby Road, but that bloke with the f88 looks a bit like Bill Hyde from Pocklington to me, although I thought he had a Fiat then. The bloke that was the road boss on that fateful Nigeria job of Wakes´was Norman Olsen (RIP) a great bloke.
Cheers, Archie.

Bloody hell if that was Bill Hyde, I think Graylease might still be looking for that F88 Graylease are now called Gray Services and are still running a truck and trailer hire business from Hull. I think Graylease was tied to John Bogg (LinkTransport) originally.
I seem to remember Colin Ewen who had a couple of trucks near Bowkers yard I think, not sure about a cousin.

Hi Wheelnut,
Yes originally John Bogg was in with Robin Gray and it was as you so rightly sat involved with Link Transport, Graylease then went out with a bang. Robin went quiet for a few years, John Bogg bought out Slaters Transport of Kirby Misperton ( my neighbours) added it to his Link Transport ,then that all finnished, I spoke to Robin a few years ago and he was up and running again on his own and from what I gather doing rather well. Billy Hyde ■■ a great friend of mine, or was Ive not seen him for a couple of three years now, I also was very friendly with his sons, Eddie and Andrew, theres more but I won`t divulge that. No he was a good bloke to have on your side, we went to Whittles at the same time. Good old days eh? Colin Ewen also on for Whittles with a 2600 DAF, he was taken very ill in Haditha, he came home and never went away again. He still runs trucks I believe, from somewhere out by Keyingham or Ottringham, somewhere on the way to Spurn point.
Cheers, Archie
i noticed the wiper too Ian, yes it is a good pic, how’s it going with your book, would be good to meet up with you & have a few beers & chat about when you were on the road, especialy the M/E.Have you anymore pics of the yellow with blue stripe trucks you used to drive, i’m thinking of doing a model of one of them.
Does anyone remember JSL from Stoke they sold out to Eddie Stobart just before the
MOD contract ran out for Bosnia and Kosovo. The MD was Carl Burgess who wasone time a director with DOW FREIGHT from Stockport
Was that Jannerite Services Ltd? Remember seeing them about in the 80s and they used to run supplies down to the Croatian / Bosnian border town of Metkovic, about 2 hours south of Split, in the early 90s. Seem to remember them having quite a few subbies doing that run. Apart from that I dont know that much about them
Yes thats right the full title was janerite, quite a few stoke lads worked for them, and they tried to teach me to speak with a stoke accent [tha mun kick a bo agen a wo then yed it till it bosts] is that the right way■■?
