CHEERS NICK BASFORD

Nick spoke to my dad and that’s what he told me…uncle joe as I call him works with me on fedex he’s in the garage…my dad runs a pub and was a builder for quite a while but he,s gone back driving full time as well as the pub on a company called reliance logistics in stoke along with his mate billy jones…dave eccs daughter Joanne runs it with his brother in law tony beresford I believe…would have been another story if my dad was still there but I’m sure you know what happened in the past…my dad’s pub is called the white swan it’s in Newport lane middleport if your ever passing pop in he,d love that nick…I actually did a bit for E&E myself when I started driving twenty years ago on agency…dave ecc said I think sarcastically are you going to be as good as what your dad was…I did my bit but it was strange the family type element of the company was gone to me shame really…thanks nick for the memories buddy I,ll pass on your regards…

Hiya…Snowman1…Longton was a big outfit. they was Guy and Leyland agents. they owned their
own Bodybuilding workshop. they had a few spin off companies like Knight and Riley continental furniture removals.
i knew of a chap doing Italy in the late 60,s with FG morris/austins and later Commer,s all 4 wheelers. Longton had
a transport division with quite a large fleet…Longton holdings also had a busy Crane hire outfit in the potteries owning
quite a large fleet of mobile cranes…there was also Longton storage another spin off. there was also a Steel stock holders.
and last of all Longton commercial and van hire…i’am not certain what is Longton holding now everything has changed
names and takeovers so i can only say about things form years ago when i would collect spares from there and see their
vehicles on the road. if you scroll through the s.o.t companies site there are some Knight and Riley pictures… cheers
John

I could be wrong here but I’m fairly sure Longton does not exist in any guise anymore. Obviously im on about the company unfortunately not the town.

hi 3300 john & ben9
thanks for the info re longton &north-staffs I had no idea they were such a big company in there day, never saw any leylands or guys always thornycrofts.

hiya just been looking on Google Longton truck bodies and Longton truck sales was sold to Evans Halshaw then closed.
Longton Crane Hire went into liquidation the 5th july 2013. i didn’t know they was still around at that time.
i can’t find any other reports of take overs.
