Just to let you all know the second book by Ros Unwin ( North Staffordshire hauliers ) will be launched with a book signing at the Post House nr J15 . I think the name has changed now but as I get nearer to old age I tend to forget things. the launch will be at 14.00 till 17.00. Hope to see some of you there

Hello again
See what I mean about forgetting things, The book launch is on Sat 15th June
Cheers
Duls
Had an email from Ros this morning with details of the book launch.
The Post House is now The Holiday Inn I believe.
Might be a good idea to have your name on your lapel just so you know who’s who!
Every time I go to a reunion these days I don’t recognise anyone, there’s just a crowd of old men!
When I wear my name on my lapel I put it upside down so I can remind myself who I am.

Hi Duls, do you know which companies are included in this one?

Hi Duls, do you know which companies are included in this one?
The idea was companies that were not in the first book, after several readers, including myself, knew of several companies we had worked for that were not mentioned.
So this new book is wider ranging, covering a bigger area and although some extra information on firms from the first book may be included, there are a lot more names going back further.
I put Ros in touch with my mate Roger Forrester, who’s dad and uncle ran C & A Forrester from Wolstanton with a lot of their trucks being in the Trentham Gravel livery, but their origins go back to the days of the horse and cart collecting,“Night soil”!.
Can’t tell you any more, don’t want to spoil it!

We had some ex Edwards drivers Steve. I believe they had their ‘Pound of Flesh’ from them!
Pete.
Very true, Pete - drivers and wagons were run firmly into the ground!
Looking at your avatar and your location, I’ll bet our paths crossed sometimes as well. Although spending a lot of time at Croxden, I worked out of Hilton in Derbyshire and (before going on to higher things) spent my fair share of time in Dene, Middle Peak and a few others round there!

Based at Ballidon or occasionally Kevin for Tilcon Steve so never went into Middle Peak, did go into Dene plenty of times when I worked for a private haulier but that would have been in the late '90’s/early 2000’s. I occasionally went into Croxden in the 1980’s for gravel back to Charcon at Middleton by Wirksworth, that was heavy going with a 201 Gardner before the ‘concrete road’ was opened and I hardly used top gear!

weeks to live. after about 9 days i get a call saying he had pass away… no one knew anything about when

HI Guys just joined ,was looking for Photos of beresford ( to show my sons what there grandad drove)and found this, which I find amazing as my dad drove for beresford.
Would of been around 1972/76 his name was Albert Grocock ( or Burt or Sqeauk) we lived in Kidsgrove and I would of been about 5 ,I remember the stories he used to tell, one that’s stick in my mind was the lost of his mate in Germany ,something about being in convoy taking tractors threw the black forest and his mate had gone over the side ,just wondering if anyone remembers Him as it was not long after he had his first heart attack at the age of 33 .He died from a third heart attack at the age of 42,I still have his brief case that he used for his paper work and still have the last log book and his maps
can I just say thankyou for sharing your Photos
just found this out,the reg’s in this are PEH151F , WEH268G ,NVT656F,EVT119J,The last entry was 15-11-74
and got this old box still loved the juice that came in it
Hiya…wow thats one of the old logbooks where you put in every stop. on duty breaks and off duty breaks.
the castle top type lines was more fun. that was only because we could’nt spell the town names.
John
