Old companies in lincolnshire 1980's - 1990's

Hi, Philybob

I only worked agency for a couple of weeks ,and they were nights for Holmes. Never classed myself as a proper tipper man but have done some tipper work over the years, mainly animal and poultry feed and raw materials inbound.
That was for W J Oldacres ,later Premier ,later Porters at Flixboro’. Most of my work has been powder tank work, many years with Rugby and it’s successors.
Have worked in a small way with Pat Harrison and Brian Midgely.

Cheers Bassman

I often think to myself, when I see these old pics “Why the hell didn’t I take my camera to work!!”

Hi
I didn’t,t know any of Grahams drivers but I do remember them delivering to building sites when I first started work.
Handballing those breeze blocks off played havoc with your hands and if the gaffer wasn,t about it was a case of"tip it slowly driver and try not to break too many"
It was surprising how few were broken if they were tipped onto sand or soft earth.
I also. Remember tippers delivering bagged cement, after the first couple of ton were off the body was tipped one ram and the bags were slid down the body, these were 1cwt bags, you soon learnt to catch them on your shoulder after being knocked over a few times. Health and Safety!!

Smart Benton’s Scanny.

Hi,

Yes, it’s a beauty. It’s a long time since I was involved in uk haulage, but that would have been several feet over length in my day - is it legal now?

Does it just scrape in with a 40 foot box as opposed to a 45 foot ?
