I remember the Red House Cafe at Woodlands at Doncaster, Good grub & open 24/7, The only problem there was when some of the drivers had been to the Tally Ho Boozer along the road, they used to ■■■■ in the wash basins in the bedrooms rather than go along the corridor to the toilet, no bloody thought for us decent living drivers Eh, But still they were happy days at least, Regards Larry.

I just found this card from Alan Dean which shows his firms lorry parked at the Red House near Doncaster.

hiya,
Just seen the news,60 odd Little Chefs to close nice opening for someone to open a chain of half decent lorry drivers cafe’s they are on major trunk routes and decent pull-ups are as rare as hens teeth in this day and age, but will it happen, pigs may take to the skies first.
thanks harry long retired

hiya,
Only ever overnighted at the Red House Donny ONCE was booked in by Doncaster BRS after a lengthy breakdown on the A1 coldest place in the world including Antartica the top sheet was an old curtain I think and my little toe got tangled in one of the ring things and every time i stretched my legs i exposed myself to the freezing elements finished my sleep off in the bait cabin at Donny depot next day while they repaired my motor, when in that part of the world would have gotten myself up to Normans where at least you was always warm, fair play to the Red House the scran was always OK having dined there on many occasions but for kipping never again.

hiya,
Yes Dave recollect quite a few that were once transport cafe’s , I suppose the way they have constructed the new set-ups parking for big stuff would be the problem and some have adjoining motels on the land which was formerly lorry parking looks like the butty box is the only answer unless you hit the lottery hard and then you may be able to buy a tea in the Motorway Services

hiya,
Only ever used the "Chefs"on the insistence of the better half when the cry was “if you think I’m going in there” meaning a knights of the road establishment, toffee nosed old bag, the last time I did go in a Chef it was about eleven and a half notes for two cuppa’s and bit of summat on a plate which wouldn’t have filled the budgie. I’m just glad I don’t have to depend on cafe food anymore.
thanks harry long retired.

Any news on the Derry Yet Lads ? Regards Larry.

I have heard it has reopened Larry, I passed on the northbound on tuesday evening and the lights were on also vehicles parked. regards kev.
