Old Cafe's

Theres a lot of crack about the Derry on the new post, none of it very good, No body had any thing bad to say when it was first mentioned by Kevmac that it was closing down in the Dec, Ok the place is a bit dated but the grub was ok as far as Im concerned, It used to be heaving with drivers a few years ago, lots of regulars like myself, I used to fill up next door because we had our own account there. I will certainly have a run down & have a look, & try the food, as I did the day before it closed, I had to of my old mates with me who are long retired like myself., So come on the new owners give it your best, & return the Old Derry to its former glory. Regards Larry.

I passed the Hogs’ Back about 09:30 this morning: Three lorries and a couple of vans parked there so quite good for time of day. Am I right in thinking the layby next to it is also popular for erm…dog walking? I gather that’s what the police get told when they find suspects in the fields…

Hello Harry Gill, I was just having a look to see if the cafe outside Bert Hinchcliffes yard on the A56 at Walmersley was still there and guess what, they do H.G.V. parking and 20% discount for senior citizens  .
I am trying to work it out now, if 1 Bacon Butty is still two Bob -20% would I still have change from one and a tanner

Regards Steve.

hiya,
Well Steve the cafe still shows up on Google it was one I only used a couple of times I wouldn’t have been very welcome near Bert’s yard “for reasons best kept to myself” did prefer “Jock’s Cafe” on the Walmersley Road a bit nearer Bury, oh’ and Steve should get a canny brekkie for about five bob.
thanks harry long retired.

I wonder if they are now doing a tea dance for pensioners on a Tuesday afternoon Harry  If I can find my old Clubs Affilliated card we might get another discount on top of the 20%.

Regards Steve.

hiya,
Tea dance my a**e the only dancing I can do is the quickstep out of the door, but Iv’e still got a
club card somewhere, Steve It’ll give your bus pass a bit of “wellie” from Oz to Hinchies, eh’ just
wonder if Stringy’s depot is still there if you can remember I did a few weeks for him holiday
relief back in 1957 and Hinchcliffe’s cafe was a bit too near even in those 20 MPH days and the
cafe would have been shut I was on night trunk, the pub opposite Stringy’s was my first port of
call prior to departure you needed to be drunk to drive those old Octopus’s and trailers was they
slow, but they was Ok to work for and I did get an invite to get a permanent start a couple of
weeks after my casual had finished but I lived in Bacup and had got a job on the doorstep.
