Just been talking to a mate who still lives in Burntwood and he said that one was the Jubilee. He can’t recall the name of the one down passed Shire Oak but remembers another one further along Chester road, where the Fina garage is now, opposite Cromwell Commercials. Mckelvie’s had a yard there and there was a cafe next door. He doesn’t know if it had a name but they always refered to it as the “Chester Road Cafe”. Thats going back a bit though ay!bigG unit just found a photo of the old cafe on the chester road shire oak brownhills.copyright adrian rothery.as for the one by mckelvies further along the same i got a mate that worked for them on the chester road will have to track him down

.
Ime off to Lincoln Farm for a pint of Double Diamond
Great to see a copy of Headlight Magazine a propper drivers mag it even had a drivers club of which my father was a member.
You could ring most of those nos. & book a bed.
Also you trust most of the return loads at proper prices & payment terms, because if any one complained they didnt get in print any more.
Unlike the sharks of today.
Here’s an old one thats just changed hands, still doing good grub, at drivers prices. “The Lazy Trout” 1937 and still going, how many can beat that.
Cheers Dave.

Oh yes,I’ve stayed at the Four Oaks quite a few times in the early '70’s when I used to load coils or wood pulp out of Dagenham Dock.
Bloody hell, the only thing that has changed in that Headlight is Chris’s Cafe has gained a couple more digits in the phone number. Same advert as now
I think the one you are refering to was Bob’s at Ryton on Dunsmore , the best one alng that road was for me the ‘Cedars’ which used to back onto a golf course, best breakfast ever and very clean. Used to be run by a bloke called Paul and his family. Open at 6am every day.Long gone though - sign of the times.
Was it Noakes cafe on the A13 nr Purfleet ? - Djv tpt had an office next door iirc
