Several weeks ago we discussed a cafe on the A19 southbound opposite the Woodside. It had a sloping park, some old fuel pumps and tanks and was a dump but nobody came up with name. Thanks to JJ72 on the worst cafes thread it was called the Woodview - so now we can all bloody sleep at night
Thanks JJ.
Thanks to Andy we can all get a good nights sleep now after many weeks of trying to remember the name of the cafe with the sloping car park Southbound on the A19 .
Now what did we say was the name of the next cafe on the left that had the fuel pumps and was it a Shell garage .
Hi Steve.
Are you sure it was on the left? I remember one on the right further down towards Dishforth island. That was a garage/cafe and quite good for snap.

Yep, it was on the left hand side A19 southbound between The Woodview and The A1. Many years ago it might of even been a Jet garage .

Hi Norman,
When I was at BRS at Smethwick my boss used to let me take the wagon home as I parked on the sunset across the road from home but sometimes I ended up there on a dodgy. He was ok about it (ex. driver) but said if I was on a night out to book off at any village around as long as I didnāt book Penkridge ! He was a great boss and would even come out of the office and sheet the next trailor for us while we got a cuppa! Good days!
hi trev do you remember a cafe called terrys on oldbury rd smethwick all len greens stopped there we had a depot on engine st -alan
I can remember one by Rood end rd. was that the one? I used one in Wattville rd, the back of Middlemore trading est.
there is still a cafe in wattville road but its run by an indian woman
hiya,
Yes Jim remember the ā ā ā ā very well, used it for years but thanks for the prompt on the name, my favourite roll and sausage venue and when i first started going in there you could park on the 74 no problem the roll used to have distinct diesel flavour usually having just bunkered at Pickfords there was another tea stop at Paisley just outside Coates thread mills that was another one of mine and seemed to have been there forever that was a"carry oot" and eat and drink in the cab job but again a very tasty roll and sausage sarnie, my staple diet when on the road.
thanks harry long retired.
An old cafe but still going strong that deserves a mention imo. The Oakdene, just off the M26.
Any cafe that still does bubble and squeak cant be that bad.
hi norman, probably got burned down by some Rangers fans hereās a true story for you. itās before my time but seemingly there used to be a cafe at Harrietsham on the A20 heading to Lenham. my mate ginger told me he was in there having a bite to eat and a cuppa. next thing a hearse draws in and 3 guys get out all dressed up in their clobber and an empty motor. they had obviously just come back from despatching some poor bugger. anyway Ginger is sitting there and there is a hell of a crash outside as two cars bang into each other. so Ginger leans over to the chief mourner and saysā¦āare you lookin for a back-load mate?ā

I was told that a lot of these hearse,s have a double floor with the next customer stored underneath through a door at the rear. This means that for your last twenty minute journey you could be led on top of a young dolly bird. Just about long enough. There has got to be something to look forward to.

44 years on tankers, what is a rope.
Lets hope that rigor mortis sets in quickly then, being stiff might have one last advantage and it would be another good story of the road that we could share with all the good drivers, when we all meet up in that big transport cafe in the sky .
yes mushroom man we have loads of stories dont we concerning our job. like I say again you cant make a ā ā ā ā up on a swivvel chair can you? my friend lives in dubbo, anywhere near you?
