Has anybody on here had to obtain the necessary tickets in order to gain access to the oil sands in Alberta? For example, H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness). I’ve almost completed all the necessary steps on the immigration side. My new employer has just won a contract working within the Cold Lake oil sands (could be Athabasca too). I’ve been offered a lot of local/regional runs as well, not that exciting but well paid and “safer” money (i.e. not waiting 2/3 days for a load South of the border). If it eventually happens, I’ll be based out of Vermilion, AB. For those IRT series 1 fans out there… It’s the same company that TJ Tilcox started out with in Yellowknife before his cab got a bit “nippy” .

yes i have a H2S ticket,it’s only a 1 day course at a training center and it cost around $150.00,there is a questionaire at the end of the course, another thing you need is a first aid ticket, thats a 2 day course and i think that was around $170.00.
sometimes you will need a confined spaces ticket aswell.
whimis, tdg, h2s, 1st aid - cpr, need confined space only if you are going to be working in that enviroment. Additional if you are working around rigs BOP, and your confined. Some of the bigger companies require a basic OH&S as well.
Ok thanks… I’ve spoken to the boss today and he’s confirmed that I’ll be on Canada only work and that he’ll provide all of the necessary training courses for the oil field tickets.
