This looks like the cartridge on the air drier. It separates any oil out of the compressed air system, also helps to reduce water vapour going into your system
It’s a filter/drying cartridge for the air system.
If it doesn’t look like it’s been changed in a while, you should change it.

doesnt look that bad lol, i have seen worse!
handy tip when you change filters, write the date on them so you know old it is!

looks like an oil seperator cartridge. same as the air dryeer cartridge for the brakes but is supposed to remove the oil that the compressor passes. more ££££ aswell
