Operated by P&O Trans-European on contract to Mobil. Regards Chris
I remember sitting in the tea-room at Mobil, Buncefield while Dad loaded, luckily it looked out onto the main access road so everything coming/going from any of the Oil Companies had to pass . Chevron/Fina were opposite Mobil & Dad always said that Chevron never seemed to be able to refuse a Truck Salesman, because they seemed to run at least 1 of everything out of there, from Leyland Buffalo’ to a Volvo F88
. This Renault was a rarity on the Oil, although if I remember ELF ran a few too
. Also look at the driver, smart uniform/ tie & cap with badge on
. Regards Chris
Calor Transport ran tankers for Esso, Mobil, Shell and B.P.
Hi All.
Biss Bros of Bishops Stortford also used to do contract work for Burmah Oil in the early 70s. We used to park loaded tankers on a car park in the middle of Bishops Stortford over night (never had any problems in those days) We had about 10 artic tankers on the go and 3 rigids for local deliveries. The owner was Roger Biss manager was Bill, cannot remember his last name nowdays
We used to pull out of Paktanks at Thurrock, the other main ones were Buncefield,Theale.
To joe the tank man, I tried to pm you a while back but with no success , I posted photos of Globe petroleum tankers as that was your first request. Are you still on this site and do you have any photos of Globe petroleum tankers back in the 1970s.
This was the local Fuel Tanker Depot on my hols to Menorca a couple of months ago. How many fuel depots over here will you find a Boat being stored nowadays H&S/risk assessment/mission statement/directive from some boring shiny-arse at Head-Office etc etc would all prevent it
. It was alongside a Garage, I stopped there to fuel-up my hire car 1 day, it was mid-afternoon & the wagons were all parked in there & the drivers were all stood next to them having a chat & a ■■■’, not a care in the world

While still in Menorca, I know it’s a Bus, but we did go on it a couple of times just to see which route it took & I couldn’t be bothered to drive! This was the Local Menorca Bus Service all over the Island, I just love their laid back ways, 1 day we got on one to go to the capital Mahon, the pic’ was taken from my Hotel room as they picked up from the car-park out the front, the driver lit-up a ■■■ as we drove off, his mobile then rung so he picked that up too, so we’re happily trundling along at a steady pace with him puffing away & chatting & picking up people along the way, only putting his phone down to take money & give out tickets then pick the phone up again & carry on chatting to his Mrs . I thought how about that back in the UK, you can guarantee someone would have phoned the Bus Company or even the Police to report him before he had gone 50 yards
. The other bit was, as you can see the Buses were very clean & tidy, clearly well looked after, the ride from our Hotel took about 30 mins & it only cost £3-50 return for the 3 of us
. Chris
It’s just crossed my mind (what’s left of it) that there are no photos of Cleveland tankers on this thread. Anyone help?
Mobil 260 Turbo 8-Wheeler
Any ones guess Chris
It’s an Esso tank on the back so I’m guessing the unit is a demo. motor.

Possibly “gom”, I think more a small Company doing spot-hire on the fuel maybe? Esso tended to keep their kit in quite tidy order, this tank looks a bit tatty, as does the Sed Atki, & the Fleet number has been blanked out on the front corner of the tank which Esso wouldn’t have done if they were running it.
