Here is a Scammell Handyman , this vehicle delivered fuel oil , does anybody know who the tank trailer manufacturer is ? , my late father Jack Williams drove one very similar to this vehicle at the Heysham oil Terminal in Lancashire.
The Scammell Highwayman with a black oil tank trailer , my favourate wagon , its a pity its not in colour , i remmember asking my father if i could travel with him one day and he said not today son , so i hid behind the passenger seat , i would be about 6 or 7 years of age , of course he saw me and i am afraid on that occasion i did not go with him . happy days.
This is my vehicle i work for Montgomery Tankservices. tankerjack.

Here are a few of my petrol tanker models with my Oil Terminal in 1/50th scale.
Tankerjack, the oil terminal looks good, it looks like exibition standard judging by the crowds in the background. Did you ever work for any of the oil companies ?
No i am afraid not , it was my father he was a driver at Shell mex and BP at Preston in 1965 , the depot was closed in 1969-70 i was only 6 years old so dont really recall much , we moved to Heysham Terminal at Half Moon Bay , Lancs , i remember we nearly moved to Haydock they had just built a new Oil Terminal , it was the biggest inland depot in Europe at the time , but my father opted for Heysham it was and still is a very nice area to live and the refinary at Heysham was still operating it was owned by Shell , it was only a small refinary in comparison to say Stanlow. When Shell and BP separated my father went to BP Oil i think it was 1975-6 , it was a mixed depot with both oil company vehicles from 4x2 , 6x2 8x4 rigids and basically the same artics in Shell and BP liverys. he retired in 1979 trapped a nerve in his back. I took some photos when i was 11 years old i`ll put a photo on this site. got into models when my father died in 1997 , i havent made all the vehicles they had such a diverse fleet and some real oddball designs of tanks with the side skirts around the tank , my favourate tanker is the Scammell Trunker with the Gloster Saro Heavy Fuel oil tank trailer in the livery of Shell mex and BP. Have you made any models ?. tankerjack was my fathers name at work. regards Paul.

I am not sure but i think this is the motor repair centre at Fulham , as you can see there is a wide variety of road tankers in this scene.
tankerjack:
it might look better this way !! .[/quoteHi Paul,I think it was a company called Gloster Saro who built that tank for Shell.
Hi Chris , Gloster Saro must have produced a wide range of tanks for the petroleum industry as i have a few piitures with that similar ladder arrangement in the middle of the tank , they look very awkward , a bet a few drivers had difficulty getting up and down those ladders !.Did you say you worked out of the Shell and BP depot at Sheffield ? , driving the AEC Mk3 with the Jennings cab ? , i remember my father still driving one of the same road tankers in the early seventies , i have a photo somewhere i shall post it . where was the depot at Sheffield , you dont know anyone that may have photos of the depot ? i collect photos of anything related to Shell mex and BP.
Hi Chris here is the AEC Mk3 in Shell mex and BP livery , is it similar to the road tanker you had at Evans .?. regards Paul.

Hi Paul.
That MK3 is identical except for the tank which is a six-potter,all Evans’ tanks were built by Torridon at Barking and all were 4000 gall, 800x 5 on 8-leggers. I drove an ex Shell Mex and BP MK3 TGU 391 which is registered in the same series.
tankerjack:
Here is a similar vehicle but with the tin plate front.
It was classed as an upgrade if you got a “tinfront” at Evans Paul. They were only the MK3 tarted up a bit, looked a bit more modern. Once again Evans ran some, nearly all ex Shell Mex and BP and UYP 879 was one of them,UYP 903 is in the photo. They also bought secondhand off Fina at Leeds and the odd one off Harold Wood and Cawoods Oils.
what type of work did you carry out , which customers did you deliver too ?.
