Nazmi Baigent was from Westcliffe on Sea nr Southend and he did indeed croak 5 or more years ago. His F16 was ex Sandtrans being the one he drove for them. It was bought from him by a guy called Eric and painted in Astrans colours, Eric never did get any work from Astrans despite having spent a fortune on it, he was so incensed by this that he re registered it the letteres were YBL numbers i ve forgotten, when i asked what was the significance of the letters he said they stand for You Bloody Liar. As far as i know he never did a trip in it and did indeed sell to Mr. Duckworth who s first name Tony is Jack. The last time I saw it several years ago it was in R and P s scrapyard Audenshaw N.E Manchester with mega engine problems what finally happened to it I don t know. Tony is quite right there was no love lost between him and me and his final employer Westwell. Regards Crow.

HELLO EVEYBODY,

Does anyone have any info about Leo Smith…Nick Carter…Tony Gambleton…Roy Williams.?

I’ve heard that Howard Leıghton passed away, is this so?
Thanks
nazmi

I believe Howard has passed away Nazmi, He was a smashing bloke was’nt He…

Howard did indeed leave us for the great Truck Stop in the sky but exactly when I can t remember several years ago. He sounded so much like John Howard that people thought they were brothers. As far as I know he ended his days living on a canal boat in the Macclesfield area. At one time he had a V8 Scania wiyh a straight thru exhaust, Christ it sounded like a Jumbo Jet. Crow.

When >I was in Izmır,1974-1978, OHS Transport/Uk was formed in 1975, and at the time main client was BMc-Izmır + General Motors(Genoto)Istanbul for Imports from Uk…Some months had 45-50 trucks comıng for Bmc-ızmır (when BMc Izmır was at theır peak) therefore almos everyday,
we had OHS Trucks in Izmır, and generally beıng off-loaded same day…When OHS Brıtısh drıvers arrv ın ızmır, they used to call me,and after off-loadıng at BMC Izmır, we used to go out for Raki&Fısh and after that to a nıght club!!!
And,Fred Mellam, late Tony, Bob Davies, Roy Williams.these ARE the names I Can recall…
I also remember Fat Guy,name could be George, long tıme ago, had an accident near Aliaga(only 40 kms north of Izmır) and
ıf I remember correctly there was a very badly ınjured passenger on the Bus…
After talkıng to the Boss, went to Aliaga, took George out somehow >>>> and send hım straıght to the road, leavıng Tr empty.
Andy I am gettıng OLD■■? Always rememberıng those days??

Nazmi

This is a photo I was given at Howard Leighton’s funeral on the 16th of June 2006. By his sister.
He had been staying at the Canal Marina in Macclesfield which was ran by his Sister and Brother in law. Howard had fallen off a trailer in France and badly injured his leg when he worked for ACH (then owned by Norberts Dentressangle). He never fully recovered and other complications set in and he passed away in early june2006 at the age of 58. He was certainly a wonderful guy to know and could converse pretty fluently in turkish. I remember one day in the office at Iznaks garage in Izmir he was telling the young lad that he wanted a bottle of joja jola, the young lad surely you mean coca cola, Howard said, no as c is pronounced as a j in Turkish it is joja jola. Not to be outdone the turkish lad then said, In English c is pronounced as s so you want a bottle of Sosa sola. at that Howard gave up and started laughing. RIP Howard it was a privelege to know you.

I think it was 74 or 75. Yes I did feel like like a King of the road. the truck always attracted a lot of attention. There was only one other around and that was also OHS and was driven by George Fardell.

I have to say though that it was a sod to drive. You had to keep your foot right down on the accelerator which had quite a lot of sprung back pressure as it was an auto. That’s why I’ve got varicose veins in my right leg!

Howard was working for Norbert Dentressangle when he had the accident ! I believe it happened in Paris area [could be wrong] – he had side of tilt stripped out [cover up on roof] and all gates open. By all accounts he went to lean on one of the side posts and it wasn’t locked in place – it gave way and he fell out and broke his hip! I was told he had this repaired in French hospital and was receiving A1 treatment in this hospital. For some reason he wanted to be transfered to a UK hospital in Essex [did he have a young wife and family in that area?] after that I don’t realy know why he returned back up north… I know his friend “Gentleman George” kept in touch/visited him [it was from George I got these details] but as George is no longer with us to ask I cannot explain further…

George Fardell is English but had lived for several years in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He lives in Devon and I spoke to him just a couple of weeks ago!

thanks andy
