Hi Nazmi,I have a feeling that we may have met, after your time with OHS. I delivered quite a few loads of ■■■■■■■ engines to the BMC factory at Izmir in the late eighties. This was around the time that my good friend Howard Leighton,ex OHS, drove for Sandtrans. Did you or do you have any connection with Iznak Transport in Izmir. Best regards Jamie.
Nazmi has asked me to post these two photos of the OHS yard at Rainham.
We might hv done at Iznak garage…I dıd not hv any connectıons wıth Iznak at the tıme,
Necdet & Alı were both workıng at OHS at the tıme…in early 80 ies…
Kind regards
Nazmi

There was a driver called Eggs on Legs (Fısrt name was Kevın or Kev) anybody remember him.?
I heard that he passed away? Is thıs true?
“Egg on legs” was Kenny Searle, sadly he passed away some time ago.He came from north London and he was really nice guy, always got time for a laugh and a chat.I ran with him a few times and never heard him complain even though he was always in pain with his legs.A real gentleman of the old school.
God bless Him.

Hı Big Leggy, do you remember me, Izmır Offıce Nazmi…Have you done BMC runs to Ä°zmir.?It ıs just a rumour…The Boss imported Mack Trucks into Turkey (long nose B61 s) back in 1964
for petrol transport Batman to Iskenderun …
Late Mrs Alma Sertel was a true lady.
I worked for OHS between 1977 to 1978 but until now never knew what the company founder looked like. What is the truth behind the rumour/story that he was married to the daughter of the M.D. at Mack Trucks U.S.of A.?

Hi Rodger and Nazmi, There were two drivers known as Egg on legs and they were both called Ken.
I think the one that Nazmi is asking about, was Kenny Bowker from london. Who i think drove for OHS at one time and was mostly clean shaven. The one I am sure Roger is thinking of mostly had a beard and came from the Grimsby area. he alway’s had a young lad with him to do his paper work and his shopping. He was also in partnership with Lawyer John Latham at one time, before John worked for Mervyn King.
Sadly I believe, they are both no longer with us.
Regards Jamie.

“Egg on Legs” must be quite a common nickname – there was a driver on Hercocks of Leicester [back in 1970’s it was Hercock Simpson I believe] known as “Egg on Legs” or Squeeky Bill !!
I have a vauge memory of running with this man Jim Beagent when he was on for O.H.S. which would of been some twenty years before this photo was taken, does anybody remember Jimmy.

Hi Steve ,I remember Jimmy Beagent when he worked for Shaw lovell. He had a green F16 with a green trailer which he sold to the nice Mr Duckworth whose first name I cannot recall(the Crow will know) I first met him in Bulgaria before that,I think he was back loading for the sheep lady then but I’m not sure.He and the Crow didn’t get on very well together.I had the impression that he thought he was a cut above the rest of us who were working for Shaw Lovell. When the fat controller blew it, and it all went pear shaped at Shaw Lovell I seem to remember that only he and Bob Westwell were left working there, much to the Crow’s chagrin.
Good Mornıng,
Yes I do remember Jım,he was fm Lıverpool I thınk, worked for OHS for 2-3 years,
was a good friend of Howard Leighton and there was another guy fm North, cannot remember his name now,
theye were very friendly.
After OHS he worked for SandTrans with Leo Smith…LAST ı’ve heard he passed away 2-3 years ago…Is thıs so?
regards
Nazmi

Hullo Roger,
I think I remember seeing that picture too. That was of I believe the other Egg on Legs Kenny Bowkett. I remember them both. Kenny Searle as you said, always had that younger bloke with him to do the Donkey Work as it was a bit too much for him. How they both used to sleep in comfort in that old F88, Christ knows.
Cheers, Archie.
Nazmi Baigent was from Westcliffe on Sea nr Southend and he did indeed croak 5 or more years ago. His F16 was ex Sandtrans being the one he drove for them. It was bought from him by a guy called Eric and painted in Astrans colours, Eric never did get any work from Astrans despite having spent a fortune on it, he was so incensed by this that he re registered it the letteres were YBL numbers i ve forgotten, when i asked what was the significance of the letters he said they stand for You Bloody Liar. As far as i know he never did a trip in it and did indeed sell to Mr. Duckworth who s first name Tony is Jack. The last time I saw it several years ago it was in R and P s scrapyard Audenshaw N.E Manchester with mega engine problems what finally happened to it I don t know. Tony is quite right there was no love lost between him and me and his final employer Westwell. Regards Crow.
GOD BLESS HIM…LOOSING OLD FRIENDS…

Kenny The Egg was from Charlton Tony, He was a belting bloke as for His weight being genetic Rita I’ve never seen a bloke eat & drink so much including about 20 of them pallishinkan things in one sitting at The National, I remember well Him supping pints of vodka in Glyfada & Crow if You speak with Big Ena ask Him about Egg the weighbridge & the fattest bloke in Limmasol off the dredger. RIP though Kenny you where one of a kind & the ladies loved you being around. Theres a belting picture of Him supping wine out of a bucket on here somewhere Rita your right, I dunno where though.
I never got on with Jimmy Baigent either Crow I found a few of them on Santrans to be or thought they where a cut above, of course Welsh Doug was an exception. They did have fantastic trucks compared to most of us though. Jimmy got that 4x2 Merc cheap for Pablo, it was a great buy for Him too. Anyway to get it back to OHS (well before my time btw) but Pablo (Paul Brookes) worked for them when He was a young man did’nt He Crow? He has some pictures of His Mack I seem to remember, Me & Pablo only talk mountain bikes nowadays though but I’ll ask Him to scan them to Me & I’ll post them up.
I think that Dave Mackie had a photo of Egg on Legs somewhere.
As regards Jimmy Beagent the few times that I met him, the first time which was about 1980 when he was on for O.H.S. I found him O.K. and good to run with. In fact I remember meeting Jim and Corrie once in Hungary when they were running together on their way home and I would find it interesting to know what Corrie thought of Jim.
Regards Steve.
