Well from the outside looking in it looks like the industry is moving somewhat, I notice OD opportunities locally arising though not really being advertised.
Stone, Cement, ferts, feeds, traction only most companies seem to have more work than vehicles/drivers at the moment, it feels like a good sign.
I find myself looking at units for sale just because of the potential work available, trouble is,
- The rates are probably rubbish
- A tractor unit wouldn’t fit in with our current trucks
- I like to have my own work not sub it
But I do like tractor units and I like bulk agri tippers (yep odd)
We sub some work in from 2 other hauliers, only ad hoc when they are too busy to manage the loads, it’s our grab wagon so I’m sure that when they can justify it they’ll buy a 2nd vehicle each, oh well ours is sign written and it’s getting our name around a bit.
It’s harder to find work for the grab truck than it is for the poopa scoopa’s
We do a bit of stone delivery, and 3-4 waste solids collections a week so it sits around quite a bit at the moment. I need to get this one working before I buy anything else.
It doesn’t pay to put it on regular stone deliveries as it carries about 2 1/2 ton less than a non grab truck, so the rates are pants as they are per ton.
What do you other grab guys do for work ?
