Obtaining Fuel Cards

When you do get your fuel cards up and running be sure to try to accumulate a few - let them d the running for your business and send you the rates each week.

If yu only use one company they can tell from your usage and I guarantee the rate will slowly creep up each week. If you stop using them for a few weeks and switch to another - or even a credit card then they will soon contact you and suddenly come up with a better rate…

Try to get a second card and tell them you will only be using a small amount of fuel. Just use the second card on a Monday - then when your credit rating is better tell them you will be using it more and get your credit limit increased - that way they may not ask for as much up front…

Get a credit card that gives you cash back and use the local pumps/supermarkets or use a credit card and balance transfer until you get the cash coming in!! Better still do a £50 shop at Tescos everyday and get 5p of every litre of fuel!!

Fuel card companies dont do you any favours! Fuels has gone up, itswas 66+ vat per litre when I was operating a couple of yrs back , was struggling then

Whats up y’all?
Well I’ve now got 2 Eurostars (don’t laugh at the back please…!), an interim licence, and now the hunt starts for all those other expensive essentials that are needed to keep a truck ticking over.
I applied the other day for a load of fuel cards for UK and europe.
The UK ones got back to me - only problem being that they wanted a bond of £3000 for the cards, plus weekly payments!
this I thought was a bit much, so I declined their offer. The cards were Diesel Direct and Texaco .
The others, IDS and DKV I’m still waiting for.
How did you lot get your first cards? Did you have to stump up a load o’ money “up front”? Is there another way - apart from a long piece of pipe and a quiet truck park?

Ian.

Look for the small banner advert for AS24 at the top of the pages of this site ( the ads change as you change pages onthe site) :open_mouth:
it looks like this.

I have used AS24 all over Europe as they have a good network

Yes this is a blatent plug for one of our advertisers :open_mouth: :open_mouth:     :sunglasses:

£3k up front ■■? tell them to … oh no, I can’t say that here

the ones I use are Fuelserv (BP), RHA diesel direct, UK fuels ( smartdiesel card and a Shell card) although I’m not using the shell one at the moment for price reasons!!! (Fuelserv and Smartdiesel email me the prices weekly) . The first one I had was a Diesel-Line from Total Butler who have a depot near here.
Oh, and I just got a couple of all-star cards in case I need to fill up where none of the above cards are accepted !!!

None of them have ever asked me for any money up front !!! although I could show them some business history and references as I had been farming for several years before I started haulage - having been running my livestock haulage business for 4 years now, I get offers of fuel cards in the post every couple of weeks :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Whats that name again?

If I mention them again will I get a big discount??

I’ll give them a try.
Ian.

by the way - BP wanted over 4 thou up front,

ianyng:

by the way - BP wanted over 4 thou up front,

Cheaper to get a credit card and pay pump prices !!!

Fuelserv offered me a BP Plus card after I had been using their bunker card for 6 months or so - still no up front payment!!!

I had to pay £1500 up front before I got my Eurotraffic card but then the same as you I was a new start business

i think theres alot to be said for the credit card route,my local morrisons who have an hgv pump are 81p inc this week, that takes some beating!

best price I’ve got this week is 81.9ppl inc :exclamation: :exclamation: and you get more time to pay, especially if you fill up at the beginning of the month  I can get up to 7 weeks using my business card - fuelcards only give you 2-3 weeks!!

the only thing with a credit card is trying not to lose the till reciepts to claim the VAT back - although Morrisons do a Business fuel card here - pity there’s no hgv pump at the ones near here

Ahh,
The joys of living in Northern Ireland,Drove the Foden down to Dundalk (Eire) on Wed Night and filled up for 74 cents/litre (About 51p/litre ex VAT :open_mouth: ) with my Statoil card. Also have DCI/Morgan fuel cards and its just a matter of phoning up and haggling over the price before I go down and fill up at the cheapest supplier. :exclamation: :exclamation:
