Recently the tolls in NYC went up quite a bit, trucks from $50 to $65 on the GWB alone, the reason given was to help pay for the re-construction at ground zero. Now as much as I am sorry for the murderous acts by a cowardly terrorist group who don’t give a toss about god or human life I don’t believe it’s the job of the travelling public to pay for the construction of an even bigger target for such evil rat turds.
NYC have now admitted the funds will not be used for that now but give no indication of where the extra funds are going ?
I think these toll are plain extortion, I know tolls are needed for repairs and upkeep of such bridges but these are huge and a disgrace. If a truck travels from Pallisades to Queens for instance which is only a short hop it involves crossing the GWB and Whitstone or one of the others, the round trip is almost $100
There is no justification for ripping people off.
I have been charged $125 on many occasions in east coast ports to be escorted sometimes as short a distance as 100 metres from the dock gate to the loading dock to get a load of bananas bound for Canada. Talk about daylight robbery! I’m apparently a terrorist risk as I dont have a twic card and they wont give me one because I’m not a citizen of the US or Canada so I have to pay for an ■■■■■■…I mean, they dont actually search my truck, so if I were a terrorist hell bent on blowing up an almost deralict brick warehouse 10 miles outside of Philadelhpia or Wilmington, all I’d have to do would be pay the money, drive inside and press the button and it’d be raining bananas!
Lets face it, this sort of thing in America is widespread and in my opinion is just a continuation of corrupt politicians bordering on to organised crime, all in on the racket and we’re the ones paying for it.
One of the advantages of not being a US citizen
I have the same problem but it pleases me, On my first driving job here they would send me to ‘Electric boat’ in Rhode Island which is in fact a nuclear submarine base. I would arrive at security fill in the questionaire and enter ‘NO’ for US citizen, be refused entry and as they needed the stuff I was carrying I woul drop the trailer in the outside lot and their yard shunter would hook up and take it inside for unloading
My company continued to send me every couple of months.
Another advantage is not having to do [zb] jury duty
Pat, you’ve had the explanation, so please just type a word and leave it. dd.
I live in Manhattan and am taxed left right and center! Pat you mention not doing jury service but they did send my wife a call up lettter to do jury service! I rang them up and explained she is not a US citizen and they said sorry and sent a letter saying that she didn’t need to attend court.

Haha well sometimes I think it would be better to pay $125 and go in to the port, rather than sit outside the gate in a place like Camden, NJ and get robbed. Seriously though, its one big band wagon and whereas in the UK they’d at least try and cover it up a bit, here its so bloody obvious.
Just glad I’m not on east coast reefer work any more!
I notice that NYPD have been using cameras at the tolls on the GWB to catch runners (those who don’t want to pay), they have caught them with licence plates that flip back at the ezpass tolls and they drive through trying to avoid the tolls, cops watch them drive through and stop them right there and then. It’s theft and carries a jail term.
