Numb Bum

Hello all, although I passed class 1 at 50, I have been driving now for seven months in a permanent class 2 position, money very good, after leaving a non driving related job. You can do some long trips and just wondering how drivers deal with the rear end going a bit numb sitting for hours. The obvious stop and rest but was thinking is there any good cushions that might help.

Set your seat up well and don’t have anything in your arse pockets would be my advice. Only time I ever feel remotely numb is when I’ve been a bit adventurous and done a 4.5 stint in one go.

As stated by Paul, you should make sure the seat is adjusted correctly to fit you. The seats in many rigids don’t offer the full range of adjustment typically found in artics, but a few minutes spent finding the ideal height and tilt on the seat base helps no end. In my experience a lot of drivers tend to tilt the seat too far forwards, presumably with the aim of reducing pressure on the arse. This may work in the short term, but on longer drives it ends up concentrating the weight on the wrong bits of the bum. Just one click on the adjuster can make a big difference.

As daft as it sounds, bring along a soft cushion. I know a few drivers who do that, our Scania seats are crap.

My Merc is 9 weeks old on Monday. I had it from day 1. Today I got in it and it had been serviced and one of the garage lads must have had more tinkering time than me. Felt a bit more like my old MAN seat. Lo and behold, you can pump up the bolsters after all.

Just trolling through but a numb bum is great if your thinking of coming out the closet and not sure if it’s right for you or not.
Also good for receivers if they want to know what it feels like to be someone else.

Anyway seat position as mentioned is key but try some bum clenching exercises to firm up ones glutes or stand up and do a little wiggle if no ones watching, I prefer to be watched though. Quite like to watch as well tbf.

Could also gently massage one cheek at a time, anything that works really.
