Nottingham incident - lots of Road closures

There’s a character who often appeared in Star Trek Next Generation and went by the name of “Q” , he was a member of the Q continuum and was omnipotent but also slightly mischievous, understandable I suppose if you’re a timeless and all powerful being.

I actually have less trouble believing in Q than I do in God; after all I’ve seen Q, and in colour too.

Haha I’m actually watching Next Generation from start, currently on season 4. Q is one of my favourite tv characters of all time. I fully believe that in this infinitely massive universe that beings like Q are a possibility.

Sploom:
Yes,He allowed it to happen and He could have stopped it just with a wave of the hand.

This is a good sermon by pastor Tim Conway that addresses the question you have

Yes he allowed this to happen, and all the other ■■■■ that happened to good people today too. He was…looking the other way during all this, for some reason.

Stephen Fry sums it up pretty clearly here too. The bone cancer in children argument is irrefutable IMHO.

Do you think God views you as a good person?

I know what you are saying and it makes sense from a human point of view but Gods ways are different.I suppose death isnt the same to God as it is to us.Death is only the end of the physical body, the soul lives on.And ,in any case,we are all going to die at some point.Does that make God bad too, that He lets us all die?
Death didnt form part of Gods original design. We have brought death to ourselves by disobeying God

And why not I say?

I believe that Stark Trek next gen (the best series IMO) is actually a documentary series sent to us from the future to warn us.

My belief is certainty no stranger than believing in a white guy with a white beard living in a palace in the sky I reckon.

God isnt a white guy with a beard.Nobody has ever seen Him.

Harry Monk:
Either God cannot stop this, in which case he is not all-powerful.

Or God could stop this but chooses not to, in which case he is evil.

Or God does not exist.

Personally, I’m going with number 3.

Imagine you are “King of the World”.

You might get off your arse to “Stop a War”, but you’re not even going to interrupt your proverbial breakfast to “Stop some lone gunman in a country far away” - are you?
Does that mean a “King of the World” is NOT all powerful, or just that “All Powerful” is the extent of the regime’s total REACH, rather than their day-to-day involvement at a local level?

“Evil” is commited by those who do it, not those who fail to stop it.
“Evil Triumphs - when the good do nothing”.
It is easier for Evil to rule Good (Good pretends to be “Liberal” for a quiet life)
It is harder for Good to rule Evil (Evil will cause mayhem and then say "See what you made me do? - NOT MY LEADER!)

It’s not as if God is watching each and every one of our personal experiences, as if viewed though the “Bodycamera” of our eyes…
Those things experienced, seen, heard, and affecting MILLIONS AT ONCE - will likely come to God’s notice rather more than “That toe you just stubbed” or “That job you just lost” or even “That lottery you just won”.

The rest is faith.

Do you believe that say, Bakhmut Ukrainians have been mostly killed by (1) Putin’s forces, (2) Ukrainian Forces, (3) Both sides Equally to blame?

Just think of how unlikely (3) is, on “balance of probability” alone

The rest is Faith.

“Good and Evil” - which is which? - is ALSO “Faith” of course.
If you have no faith, then you’ll believe what likely the first evil people to reach your ears - tell you.
The “Truth” is often the very last thing to be heard, and the very first thing to be obsfucated - especially in wartime.

Exodus 33:19-23
" 17And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen."

I have no idea where the “traditional” images of “God” come from, as if no one gets to live after seeing the face of God, then who managed to get back here, and paint a picture?

It’s gonna be tough having both Stewart and DeLancie nearly 40 years older per each, with Q supposedly this God-Like figure eh?

I concur with the notion that “Q is one of my favorite TV characters of all time” though.

More like “Loki” than “God” of legend, maybe?
Picard, by refusing to bow down to Q, actually upholds the first commandment if you think about it, “Thou shalt not put any other god before me”.

Oops - this seems to have bled over from the other faith on bully’s about religion…

Best keep “God” out of the remainder of this thread, lest it be “locked” for being offensive to the families of those that have already died eh?

Best show a bit of respect there.

Yes,good point

God imagine that. To the perennial question ‘You you could time travel what point in history would you go’ my answer is I wouldn’t, I’d go 1,000 years into the future. The past is an already written story. And I’d love the idea of travelling the universe. If we will or not is unknown, we will possibly wipe ourselves out first, but look at how fast we’ve progressed in past 100 years, anything is possible

Just want to comment on when you said a God that gets angry if you mock him but is indifferent to death seems weird.I would fully agree with you if God was a human or even some sort of superhuman. But I thought of a little analogy. If I went to your workplace and you didnt know my name, you might say, alright mate,or something like that. But if King Charles went to your workplace and you called him mate, that would be a bit disrespectful, would it not? So,when you consider an infinitley good God of everything, how are you going to measure the respect which would be due to Him.If you mock another driver, then,OK,but if you mocked a small child, that would be seen as not a nice thing to do,worse than mocking another driver because its an innocent child. So how do measure how serious it is to mock an innocent God?
Children are more innocent than adults of course, but then,if you have kids, you know that you dont have to teach them to lie ,or fight between each other and bullies in the playground, these things happen from their inherent sinful nature

I don’t respect god because I don’t believe he/she/them exists. I don’t respect King Charles because in 2023 I don’t think the monarchy should exist. For me respect is earned, not a divine right

Ok,fair enough

…but we’re doing it again - going off topic on a subject that has seen 3 people killed, two of them students…

The silence is deafening from the Media, so I’m going to jump to the conclusion that the perp here - is a nutter that has nothing to do with the Far Right, as if it were - full details would be in this morning’s papers, including the value of his house - Right?
