Norman Ingram:
Yes I did Dave, there was some lovely young irish coleens who was clippies one was Teresa Green & her mate who was a dark hair lass, who had red rimmed glasses and the same lipstick, we used to brighten up the passengers, when our buses used to pull into Mercers Row we used to run from each bus and embrace and give a kiss as though we had not seen each for months. This happened every trip into town centre, we would see each other at the Irish dance hall every friday & saturday nights, there was about a dozen of them, gret lasses.
Those were the days Norm , happy memories for you.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Norman, a dozen clippies at your beck and call, your just an old lethario you must
have caved a few notches on various bed posts in your time, my old fellahā got me
a date arranged to take a PSV test when he was coach driving I didnāt make it was
just young Iād had too much too drink the night before so missed out I wished Iād
done it now seems like it might have been good fun, can hear the āducā shouting
down the stairs when the bus was at the terminus, āget up these stairs Harryā
thereās room for one on top, might never have made it back to lorry driving,

Harry, you might have had fun, but harry they was a lot of Irish girls who was clippies, so I think you would have been in bother, for you told me you couldnāt handle one of them that you married Myself on the 7th, I have been married 52 years, how I really cannot say, except it was brains, goodlooks, good natured, kind, generous, and I am told I am always bloody lucky!

You had the advantage of getting married in 1962 Norm, because what followed was the harsh winter of 1963, which would make you and your beloved very closeā¦to keep warm.
Cheers Dave.
We got married in 1963dave , just in case we had been too cosy through the winter , cheers , dav
Norman Ingram:
Has I have told you lads, Northampton has sub tropical weather. But the winter of 1962/63 was a beauty, we had compacked snow and ice on roads and pavements for over 12 weeks, my son who was born premature, 3lbs 2.0z when he came out of hospital after a month, I fitted a dimplex fire above the cot on the wall for it was cold and no central heating just a fire place in the bungalow we rented.
Same this way in 1963 Norm, all anyone had was an open fire, plus an electric fire as a standby. Nearly everyone had burst pipes after it warmed up, or had blocked pipes, it wasnāt easy for anyone. The farm just across from me had a burst block in one of their old Ferguson tractors which they forgot to drain the water out of. I canāt see people suffering like that these days, if we had a very hard winter, as modern houses have better insulation and double glazing etc.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
We had our place insulated on the County Council scheme this was a few years back
It hasnāt made one iota of difference when itās really cold our place is freezing I feel
sure they just drilled holes and blew fresh air into the cavity, I honestly think our
house was warmer in the Wintertime prior to them messing about with it certainly
no savings on the fuel bill, Ohā and it cost me Ā£70 to get a guy in to clean all plastic
window frames and window sills that got covered in the dust from all the drilling I
did get him to clean the gutters at the same time hence the price.

Hi Harry,
I had this place checked on the Home Energy Efficiency Grant about 5 years ago, Had the loft insulation brought up to the required standard. They wanted to insulate the wall cavities, I said no way, the cavity is there for a purpose, it helps the place to breathe and keeps damp out.
A couple of houses across the road from us had thereās done, and now they have mould and damp problems.
Cheers Dave.
Hiya,
