Not Trucking but Still Expat related

Hi guys, just thought i would post this up here, so people looking into coming to Canada can see just how beautiful the country is. I have been stuck in Edmonton for the last 3 months or so since landing. One of my friends asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip and explore Alberta a bit, so I jumped at the chance. We headed down to Calgary to begin with. Now for those of you who dont know this. There isnt much at all between Edmonton and Calgary. Mainly just fields and stuff for about 3 hours driving. We left Edmonton at 7 am, and got to Calgary at 10 am. We went and visited a few of Mario’s friends while there, and we stopped to take a few photos. The guy in the first photo is Mario.

From where we were the Calgary Tower is obscured by one of the other towers, so we drove into downtown to get a few photos of the Tower.

About 2pm we set off back up towards Red Deer, then took highway 11 towards Banff National park, to get upto Jasper (We would have been quicker just going from calgary to banff, but someone said this way was quicker… thisk they were taking the ■■■■). At about 3pm the skies opened up

Were getting closer to the Rockies…

Lake Abraham. The water is really really blue. Sort of like Mediteranean Sea Blue. It was beautiful.

Finally the mountains!

Were heading towards the Columbia Icefield now

Athbasca Glacier… WOW!

And Finally when we hit Jasper, we saw the first and only wildlife of our 800 mile journey

We ended up back in Edmonton at 1:30 am sunday morning, having done a total of 800 miles or so.

I really enjoyed getting out of the city and seeing some of the most beautiful countryside i have ever seen. Pictures dont really do the place justice. Its just so awesome in person being there.

I tell you something, Jon. I had pretty much started taking it all for granted and you have made me rethink that.

Jasper is an amazing place, isn’t it? Did you see the warning signs for bears■■?

Great pics, mano!

Jasper was quite a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the City of Edmonton. Very much like a traditional town in England, 1 Street with shops and pubs and lots of people. Yes I saw the bear warning signs, didnt see any bears though. Gonna take the wife up there when she comes over after finishing her univeristy degree.

As BTD says, having been here for a while now I take it for granted, I did some sightseeing in Calgary myself last week, as well as the city center I visited the Olympic Village, that’s well worth a look if you get the chance.

Canada is a very beautiful country, the prairies are a bit uneventful but when you go a bit further north even Saskatchewan is spectacular :open_mouth:

For my money though, it’s BC everytime, absolutely breathtaking scenery, second place goes to the lakes of Northern Ontario & third is New Brunswick, especially during autumn.

I have been especially lucky with some of the places I have been, into the real wild lands. It’s that sort of thing that gets me every time. I never really was one for sightseeing but there are places I would love to go.
Have to agree about the mountains though…

Thanks the pictures well really great and show Canada is a wonderful place
makes me wish I was 21 again , if you get any more please post as it makes
a interesting change to seeing trucks only, and your are not alone as a
few post on here also such wonderful pictures, of where they may be living
or have visited as well

Canada looks really nice bit like america but without the retards as citizens?
will consider canada as a holiday destination for the future seems to be more civilized than its southern neighbour

Germany has some spectacular scenery too Pete, so get snapping mate.

Oh BTW welshboy, there are plenty of retards here too, just ask anybody who has visited Saskatchewan :open_mouth:

Should have some more pics before too long, Finally got some work driving around Alberta  12 tonne truck, not exactly Class 1 work, but its a start, and will rpovide me with some income and some canadian driving experience. Im not looking forward to the snow coming… Speaking of which, there was a light dusting on the rooftops in Fort Saskatchewan this morning.

Snow in August, that’s Alberta for you! I was in Edmonton Monday & Tuesday, it was in the 30s thankfully :sunglasses:

Driving in the snow is no big deal, it’s dry so it’s more like driving on dust, it’s different in the mountains, more moisture so it’s slippery stuff, still you’ll be ok as long as you don’t do anything too silly.

Saw a Wolf crossing the road infront of me heading up route5 to Jasper.

Ask a Canadian which are the retards, and they will say Newfies.
