Go in, do your job and go home again…don’t get involved in all the [zb].
Best advice ever.
I stay well clear of office politics, never get involved in anyone else’s business and don’t entertain anyone who’s only interested in whinging and trying to figure out what run I’ve got.
Plenty of these loudmouths will load the bullets but will let you pull the trigger
In my experience drivers that are paid by the load are the worst offenders for this. Not all but most of them want to know what load so and so is doing, how long ago they’ve left, who else is coming in, they always seem to be having a terrible day compared to everyone else too
I don’t understand why they concern themselves with what everyone else is doing it only winds them up and serves to make their day even worse can’t see people ever being happy with that mindset.
Found in the past that if some one spat out there dummy about my run I would offer to swop. (Never cared much for run hogging)
Worked well for me as I often opted for spare driver at an old employer. Went wherever. Whenever.
The depot whinger decided that my jobs always better so one week opted to cover my work as it looked good.
Till on the first day he got sent from Preston to great Yarmouth in a transit tipper. Deliver said tipper.
Drive hire car back to Base.
Soon decided that he didn’t want my work. As I used to be a right old grabber of overtime
Weird they way some drivers opening conversational gambit is always ‘where have you been?’ Really annoys me, as I couldn’t give a stuff where they have been. Have to take some detours and employ some ninja style wagon entry techniques to avoid them seeing me and the third degree that follows. Nice to know I am not alone in being annoyed about it.

When I’d been at my place 6 months I had our driver trainer approach me and ask if everything was alright and if I had issues with anyone.
Someone had complained because I didn’t make an effort to speak to them.
Grown man upset because another grown man had no interest in them.
Been here 2 years now only speak to a few others as acquaintance couldn’t tell you any of their names.
I have noticed this, I believe it to be lack of emotional development, in that they stopped their development at around 4-6 years of age, it seems most of the humans in this country suffer from this condition though, not just lorry drivers.
Just make your excuses and leave them to it, you can tell them that they are boring you, it can go both ways on that, they cry or they become aggressive, you can have fun with it.
