Hi,
We have a truck travelling from Oslo to Haugesund in mid January. Would the E134 from Oslo usually be passable at this time of year?. It seems a long way to drive round via the coast road. Any advise would be great.
Cheers guys, Steve.
Hi Steve.The route makes no difference,everywhere’s bad in January.Just make sure you have Winter tyres and chains,and the driver knows what he’s doing and what to expect.The conditions change so fast.

Why don’t you ship to kristiansands from Denmark then get the e18 (goodroad)to stavanger and check if there’s a ferry across to haugsund
E134 is one of the more regular roads in winter. Has to be really bad before it closes down.
Regular winter road conditions with snow and ice. The three long tunnels on either side of Røldal have nasty mist problem, and are only 4.2m
Chains will probably be needed in this area as well
Also don’t forget the new thread requirement of 5mm for winter tyres. Trucks stopped with less will not be allowed to drive on before a change.
From Norwegian Public Road Administration
For vehicles with a total permitted weight of more than 3 500 kg (both towing vehicle and trailer), tyres are required to have at least 5 mm tread design depth from 15 October in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, and from 1 November in the rest of Norway.
Thanks for your advice guys. I think we will risk the E134 and see how it goes.
All comments noted regarding tyres & chains. Again many thanks. Steve.
On the positive side the Norwegian drivers are good guys and will help you.Just remember if you ask ‘‘what’s the road like’’,their idea of ‘‘normal\good’’ will be a lot different to yours.Have a nice trip.
As long as the truck is in good condition (steep climbs of 7-9%) and the driver is careful, it should be no problem.
Put on chains early to be safe
Google Maps Street View of the mountain areas on either side of Røldal is from April, which is at the end of winter, but should give some idea of the conditions.
Will most likely be more snow and ice in January though.
Web camera links from NPRA
E134 Haukeli tunnel east side
E134 Haukeli tunnel west side
E134 between Seljestad and Røldal tunnels
Shortened link to a Google translated NPRA site for traffic information. Should be good enough to understand. Already selected the option for mountain passes in southern Norway.

Weather information for mountain passes:
yr.no/place/Mountain_crossin … rn_Norway/
Worst part will be the areas on either side of Haukeli tunnel usually.
Words that might be good to know:
Stengt = Closed
Kolonnekjøring = Convoy
There are on average 200-250 trucks driving this road every day
Post back here how the trip went
Good luck!

Be aware that you’ll need M+S marked tyres, as well as 7 sets of chains.

The English site is very limited. Guessing maybe 10% of all info is translated.

True enough, however it is the home site for Diesel Donnas pdf pamphlet, so it gives some additional information to that.
Wonder how this is going?
Hope its not going over in the coming days. Weather is really bad with storms and closed roads all over.
Today our truck is stuck in Norway as the road is closed due to bad weather. We managed to do our delivery in Haugesund yesterday but caught out whilst parked up overnight. We have now missed the evening ferry from Oslo so will have to arrange the next weeks schedule. I will keep you posted with Photos to follow shortly. Cheers.
Steve.Waiting for the photos.
